Yes you are correct about the hearing requirements, I apologize for rushing up the response and did not want to go into more details. Just made it simple since a deaf person would not pass the whisper for sure and would take a test if they wanted to prove that they can hear up to 40 decibels.

Comparing deafness to blind for this particular discussion is invalid. Because there is a valid reason blind person cannot get a waiver due to that they can't see. I have yet not seen a valid reason a deaf person can't get CDL.

Tell me how you would feel if (god forbid this happens to you) you lost your hearing in both of your ears some how and there is no way of fixing that. Then you lose your CDL, out of job and down to flipping burgers at your local mickey d? Then wouldn't you want to have a waiver so you can continue to drive?

Become a greeter in Walmart. Hearing is not required like it is in McDonalds.

What happens to the deaf driver who gets in a wreck and kills somebody, regardless if hearing played a factor. Wouldnt the lawyers pick him apart? Wouldnt that make the person even more of a liability of a company?

Naw, not for the company. If said driver has a waiver it's all good. Well in a criminal trial, in a civil trial they'll both probably loose their umm cases.

No different than in any other traffic case with a truck.

One last clarification, are we talking about deaf people that wear hearing aids or without hearing aids?

Id have no problem with a deaf person operating a truck with a hearing aid that allows him/her to hear well.

But someone who actually cant hear? Thats scary in my opinion. When im in parking lots and places with people i have my windows down and im listening. If i ever hear a scream or horn i stop and look. Even if it isnt directed at me.

Last I knew Deaf meant Deaf.

    Hearing impaired is the others.

Just how many drive cars, pickups, motor homes and others you would be surprised.

True, but cars, pickups and even motorhomes are lighter, easier and quicker to stop. Probably would cause less damage than an 80,000 truck. Sure there are exceptions but thats the way i see it. Just my opinion.

    Think about this a bit.

Loud stacks because they are running straight pipes and listening to the radio. Not going to hear a thing over that.

    What difference?

Most will probably drive a bit safer with the deficit.
