ORD sounds like that tidbit of advice comes from personal experience, is that true?

You folks understand that's not a very good idea? I'll pick up some gravity assist too, so don't get me wrong here.

You can loose brake effectiveness if they get too hot, so coming down with the jake on is a good plan. Leave your service brakes for backup. So what if you don't realize there is a sharp curve at the bottom? I've seen a semi roll coming down the north side of Monteagle because he didn't have any brakes left. Mount Vernon canyon on I70 west of Denver used to kill a couple of drivers every year- and still does occasionally, near the Morrison exit.

Remember, if you are above your tractors governed speed and your trailer comes around, there's nothing you can do about it. You will be in a high-speed jackknife accident.

Thanks IP for the advice, I do use the jakes as well. The hills I was referring to we're the ones east of Springfield on 44 where you can look straight down to the bottom and up the next hill. Nothing crazy like out west or even farther to the east in PA or VA.

He was an o/o with no govenor on his truck. His idea of training was to teach me how to cheat the paper logs and such. To his credit he did observe all other laws and safety told me his safety rating was outstanding....

Yep. The DMV will not process your permit w/o your medical card.
