Light steady pressure to reply to the original intent !! LOL find the right gear; and less than 10 lbs for sure. Jakes were in full use when I started driving in '88 but my uncles and many others ran trucks for years with no jake. Old 290 and 335 Cummins, and V903s. Never wrecked and smoked brakes were NOT common........it's all technique!!
Stab breaking or continuous light pressure

The downside is this: If you miss that gear while downshifting, then you have a problem... downhill grade, in neutral. The only thing left is your brakes - assuming you have some left.

My trailer brakes have always been the first to go up in smoke under sudden heavy braking to avoid picking a 4-wheeler out of the engine. Rarely have they caught fire, 3 times. Once on Fancy Gap and tthe other 2 on Mont Eagle.

Brake fade on a hot day, miss a gear trying to slow down... bad scenario.
NWMAXI Thanks this. -
