In case everyday didnt see this it looks like a great opportunity for a one year commitment. 1000 free scholarships for veterans as well as $1000.00 discount for Reserves/National Guard (their regular tuition is $3900.00). Sounds like a nice deal for those who can use it.
Before the naysayers chime in the company generates over $3.4 billion in revenue and operates over 16,000 trucks so they gotta have a bunch of happy people!

I would like to hear a little more about this company? Anyone think its a good company? Or another one that is going to run you through the ringer? I am leaving the Army in less than a year and will be looking for a good solid company to start with.

JPalmr81 look at Prime or Shneider. They both pay for school at there academy. If you have post 9/11 GI bill Schneider will work with VA to use your GI bill and you get an extra 1k something a month from the VA. It is on there website. Prime from what i have seen is the highest pay for starting and highest pay for training for the bottom feeders as they call them.
Look on this site at the company's you want to work for. They will all have there good and bad about them. It is all about what you want from a company. i.e. pet with you, home time etc... -
No training with an employment obligation is a "great opportunity " . There have been hundreds of posts here warning about becoming an endentured slave to a training company .
Many state colleges provide free tuition to veterans and members of the National Guard .
Training carriers have a turnover rate of over 90% . With 16,000 trucks that means 14,400 unhappy people - more if those trucks run teams .
Spare us the BS please . Veterans deserve better . -
P.S. to Smokeycv, Schneider doesn't have a training school, you go to a regular school that you pay for and then hire on with themCondoCruiser Thanks this. -

So, are Schnieder, Prime and Swift all a part of the notorious "bottom feeders"? So which is the best of the worse then?
-
Most of the regular employees stay but they go through a lot of newbies to fill open positions . Using the example here if Swift has 4,000 drivers quit they will have 12,000 newbies come and go before those positions are filled . That's my math .
Now a math assignment for you. Tell me how many trucks Swift added to their fleet the last couple of years and how many newbies they hired . -
JPalmer81 There is no great answer for who is the best or worst of them. I am not in trucking yet just doing my research before I retire from the military. It all depends on what you personally want and need. I would advise you to sit down and think exactly what you want from a trucking company and then find the one that is close to what you want. Will you find the perfect company right of the bat? Maybe maybe not.
Do you have a family? Do you want to be home often or run all the time? If you have a wife and no kids and want to take wife with you? Do you want to do flatbed, refer, dryvan, tanker? Do you want to be stuck with a contract from 8 month to a year or more? (will happen if the company pays your trainig) Do you want to be forced to drive in NY? there is more stuff to think about but that should get you started.
Are you planning on using AK as your home or are you going to come back to the lower 48? not sure what company's hire from AK.
Best of luck to you.
