How is the Samsung tablet working for you as a GPS? I was wanting to do the same thing, but was not sure how well it works and the Verizon people I have talked to so far are worthless. They know how to ring you up, but that's about all they can figure out and I am not 100% sure on that since I did not buy it. How big of a data plan do you have with it?
Thanks for the info.
Iphone as wifi hotspot or a mifi card?

I use my moto xoom for my gps and works great. Not truck specific obviously, but that's not really my concern. You can do street view and everything.vikingswen Thanks this.

I'm using a Galaxy Tab 7 with Sprint. Works descent enough with Copilot (car version) and Google navigation. I can't say what the data plan is because it's company issue (electronic log). But Copilot doesn't need data once installed.

OCed and MEANvikingswen Thanks this. -
When I purchased the unit, it came with a app called Navigation by google. It's NOT a truckers app. I've been running the oilfields and this has helped me tremendously finding lease roads. Not all lease roads have a street name but it will still show the road on the map. You can purchase a dash mount for the unit that has a extra plug for voltage. I would also suggest putting a screen protector on the unit. My plan is a 3gb and yet gone over.
I don't watch videos or anything of that sort. I mainly surf the web, check email and MOD here on TTR with the unit. If I have down time, I pull out the laptop and hotspot to the unit. Supposedly, you can use googles voice over the unit or video chat with a app called ooVoo, but I've yet to get them working. For some reason, it won't connect my bluetooth piece. Overall, I'm happy with the unit. Now if I could figure out how to jailbreak it and delete some of the bloated apps they installed. They don't sell the 7" now, it's 7.7" and I think it's 4G.
I hope that helps ya, Keep it Safe out there................ -
Thanks Rookietrucker,
I did realize that you had mentioned your 3gb plan and I just read it for the 3 G network. I would like to use it for the same things you are using yours for. Having a back-up GPS, load planning and email. I like email since everything is in writing. If there are any questions I can pull up the email and it does not get to the you said and I said game. There are some good apps out there as well. Truck stop finder, cat scales and tons of other things. I realize that Verizon offers a no contract tablet as well. I hate contracts and just use their pre paid flip phone right know. It has unlimited calling, text and data for $50,00 and the phone cost $79.00. Unfortunately the web service and screen size suck. ence I am not using any data on that phone. I used to break at least one phone a year, but since I have a cheap one I am doing fine. Go figure. I will stop by my local Costco since they have some deals on tablets and a Verizon kiosk as well.
Thanks again for the help and have a nice fracking day
