Oh, ok then. It sounded like something that would be passed around the TV room at an OC.

Personally I think 80F is too high. Even on a 70F day if it's sunny the truck is going to be like sitting in an oven. I can understand wanting to shut down trucks that are idling unnecessarily overnight. If they are going to put these in effect then they should maybe think about providing the window screens and maybe a fan at a decreased cost to all company drivers. I don't mind shutting it down on a warm day as long as I can open all the vents and put my window screens in. But if I'm stuck sitting in a truck stop that reeks of urine and feces I don't want to be forced to chose between sitting in an oven or wearing a respirator to breath.

As for the 10F. That's fine by me, I have a bunk heater, there honestly is no reason to idle the truck in winter for heat since we have bunk heaters in all trucks. The only problem is that those heaters have a tendency to fail in the older trucks. There needs to be some kind of override to allow the truck to idle if the bunk heater fails. I had the heater die 2 weeks after a PM in my old truck. They wouldn't fix it and I was told by my DBL to just keep track of my idle time and they would credit me for it. With this new system I would've been forced to freeze in the truck until I got close enough to an OC for them to swap out another heater. I didn't realize it died until 2AM when I woke up from shivering. Took the truck 30 minutes to warm up in 20F weather while I was wrapped in everything I had to keep what body heat I had left.

I know in the end it all comes down to what saves them more money. It's probably cheaper to retrofit the entire fleet with these sensors than it is to keep wasting hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars a year on drivers idling.

    Just my opinion.

Also, how did you become a part of this board?

When I signed on.. they gave me a figure of what I would earn per mile, now besides the per diem, which can be taken off after 90 days it has been exactly that. I Idle all the time, like someone said, I don't want to smell the piss in a truckstop parking lot. I like the air to be moving in the back. I take the idle bonus, as just that. A bonus, you want to earn extra, sweat it out, they don't make you take a pay cut, they just don't give a bonus. I never saw the fuss about it.

if you can't get by without the bonus, maybe you should look for a better paying company or position just imho

Everything you said I already had wrote down to make sure I brought up.
I was just asked to do it.

In the write up I got, if the anti idle goes into play then starting in 2013 idle % will no longer be figured in for the bonus. With that being said, it should be easier for drivers to receive a bonus.

The bonus is being switched over to be based on workflow statistics, so regardless if idling is in or out it's going to be changing anyway.

Seriously though, the top number should be 70 degrees, not 80. They're going to tell me that if, god forbid, I'm in Miami, FL in July, it's 4 am and it's 79 with 100% humidity we can't idle? Daytime is one thing, but trying to sleep at night in that? It's bad enough that our AC constantly goes out. Mine went out in August, put it in the shop, they didn't do a #### thing to it. There's a lose wire and of course, when the shop got it the AC was working, even though the estimator specifically noted that there was a lose wire that needed to be fixed. So now I have to go under the hood and mess with the wire until it gets the AC compressor to switch on, then hope that it stays on long enough (it'll switch off after 2 hours, or 15 minutes), rinse, repeat. Plus doesn't help that I'm sitting in Laredo right now and it was 97 yesterday. Wanted to get it fixed in Dallas on Saturday but they wouldn't even put it in the shop until Wednesday. Not waiting that long, have to make money. So I'll just keep moving around a wire in order to get AC.

Something else to keep in mind -that we only have 14 amp hours on our batteries, tops. From November to March its a rare night that the LVD doesn't kick in. If I'm stuck in a dock or waiting for a load I'll need to run the truck just to cook or keep the fridge running.

To switching over to WF stats for bonuses - we're 6 months to 2 years away from that working. My OOR is currently at -35%. I'm good but not that good. The ETA accuracey is way screwy, anx WF is still having issues working right.

Another thing you can take to this meeting on Wednesday is if they so put those idle senaors in the truck I will start looking for another xompany.

Gentleroger, that is another note I made. I feel that driver turnover will go up 10-20%.
I will say though, other companies have had this sensor for awhile now (England, Knight, Werner). They only allow idling when it's so cold that the fuel can start to gel.
