I've been looking into starting my own business but lack the credit and finances to go get a truck and hammer down the road. A lease purchase is basically my only option at this point I think. I'd like some insight into which are the better companies out there that do L/P with trucks other than Volvo or Freightliner.

Man.... I would recommend remaining a company guy until you get your finances and credit in order.. Being an owner operator isn't as lucrative as some say.. You can do ok and have more freedom but you can also lose your rear end fast.. but if you have to do it.. stay away from Prime Dart Greatwide.. man they are all rackets waiting for a target. I can't think of a good one..

Best lease purchase options - none. There is another way, the best way - clean up the mess and save up some money that way you won't ever need a FICO score for anything in life. Might take a few years but trucking is not going anywhere, it'll be here. You have a track record of mismanaging money already. If you can't get a grasp on that, what makes you think you can pull this off? In the blink of an eye things can go from good to shelling out $5,000 or $10,000 for practically anything SNAFU. Does that sound like fun if you don't stashed away? It's really not all that much fun when you do. I predict another lease purchaser ruining their life if you choose the easy way. Some will argue this but one lease purchase is about as good as another, they all pay about the same unprofitable rates. Not what you wanted to hear, I know. Good luck.

This is the true reality of it. A lease purchase is not the way to go. Most dont think anything about when the breakdowns occur AND THEY WILL no matter how new your equipment is. When you have a breakdown, you arent making any money and you are putting out a lot of money not just for the repairs but how about a motel and food and cab fare or rental car?

Being a former managing partner you definitely should get 2 to 4 years of experience driving and then determine how you like it. Next, it is best if you have some business savey, if not start picking up books on running a small business. Speak with o/o and get their insight of the business. I have owned businesses for the last 17 years. I'm would not be comfortable jumping into leasing nor becoming an o/o until I understand the trucking business inside out. You should have at least a minimum of 6 months of savings to live on including paying bills. I would also suggest having a minimum of $25,000 set aside as escrow once you do become independent. You don't want to be caught short and loose everything. Be frugal and manage your money wisely. Purchase items by what is needed not what you want. SAVE, SAVE, SAVE YOUR MONEY!

These lease purchases or so what they call them are nothing but truck rentals designed to shift financial liability away from the carrier & onto the driver...

They are pitching these fleece deals like a crooked used car salesman!!...

a good piece of advice would be...Never lease a truck from the same people who are giving you the loads...they know exactly what to give you to cover the expenses & that's it...whether or not you make any more than that..well, they could care less!

Doesn't this sound like somebody saying,"i want a car. I just dont have the money to pay the note or put gas in it"

Your business should be to take care of your family, and not put yourself in more debt or line the pockets of these fleese purchase companies.

Do you really have 7 years driving? Hey try them all. Dart, prime, jct, abc, def, act, lmnop.

Yeah I have 7 years experience. I've been around trucks my entire life. I understand the cost vs. revenue and breakdowns. I know the maintenance costs aren't cheap. I spent 4 days in Winnemucca, NV waiting on tires with my uncle. Only place to stay was a hotel/casino.

I've thought about doing a lease purchase, but without the intent on buying the truck at the end of the lease.

Main reason was to get experience of what it is to truly run a business. Taking the risk of coming out on top or losing everything.
