so all & all is it really worth it to become an o/o? would one expect to make more than a co. driver? If so about how much would a somewhat smart o/o expect to make. also wouldnt you have to put a sizeable amount away for replaceing your tractor every 4 years? and me being single;is that an advantage? I like the idea of being in buss. for myself but i dont want to go bankrupt in doing so. I have a sizeble inheirentance to get started bu i dont want to make the wrong move. Ofcourse i will get a few tears under me before i even consider this. Im recently divorced...yea!.so thanks to the ez\x i have no mortage. and no child support"they wernt mine" again yea!

Overheard at the local truck stop repair shop..............
"If you want to make a small fortune in trucking you gotta start out with a large one"
IF you are looking ONLY at the money then being a O/O does not make sense. If you are like many of us that can't stand being micro managed by some body else then being a O/O just might work. Provided you have the correct business sense to make a go of it.
As for replacing your truck every 4 yrs thats a personal choice. The truck I have now looks to be a pretty solid truck. Its highly likely to be around a long while. I can rebuild the major working parts and keep it going. -
if you lease onto a company or lease to them you may make good money, crst has a walk away lease and i know several poeople who are making very good money = grossing arounf 4 k a week and probably 2500 a week is take home
remember you have to have a good running truck and take care of it, do not skip on tires and pms.
take care of it it will take care of you

I BELIEVE THAT I AGREE WITH YOU!! I have heard nothing but horror stories about lease programs. And 4k a wek sounds a little too good to be true concidering all the normal cost to operate PLUS the lease
-
4k gross isn't abnormal, but $2500 net on that gross is ridiculous. I guess some unsuspecting fool might read that and believe it. The same fool probably still has a headache from falling off the turnip truck.

crst has a very good lease program, they hit you up for $310 a week lease payment, .10 miles goes in escrow for maintainance and another $125 a week for insurance, permits and so forth, the fuel tax is paid either at the pump or quarterly.
An average trip from Kohls in Wurtsboro NY ot FOntanna CA pays $3,000, 2600 miles, the loease op gets 70% of that 3k. that is $21oo, oh yeah, the fuels surcharge is excellent at crst, at that NY TO CALI the fuel surcahge is probably $700 team driving covers way more ground than solos. a solo oawner op will not make half what a team makes, because a team runs way more miles and there are two pwoplw paying the maintainance not one, so teams make way more , the trip from ny to wurtboro takes 60, do that a couple times a week and you are in good shape, and the shorter runs have a much high pay rate.
you should really look into it.

Sounds like Rosalina is pulling #'s out of her.......hat.... Now, you figure, you're driving a 4 - 5 year old piece of crap tractor....yeah...you ain't payin' much to drive it......on the front end. Out of the $2100 that you get for your 2600 miles... IF the truck gets 6mpg... you're looking at 433 gals of fuel....at around $3.20(estimated avg)...that works out to $1385... now.... take another $260.00 for your maint. plus the other $435 she mentioned....Let's take a look
$2100
-$1385-Fuel
-$ 695-Lease, Maint, Tags, etc.
+$ 700-FSC
$ 720 - PROFIT
I don't know....if I had to drive from NY to Cali....for $720.....I don't think I'd be telling anybody about it......well.....I would too....I'd be warning them!!! -
Yeah I'll pass.
Compare that to a load I had from OH to WY. Loaded monday, I was home wed night, delivered thurs AM, back home for the rest of the week and went back out on monday.....
$5500 to the truck for 4 days, not too shabby I didn't think. Even when you add in the 371 mile dead head to be ready for that load.
2300 miles, dead head to the load, loaded miles and dead head back to the house............$2.39 a mile TO THE TRUCK.
I wish I could always do that good.
