Today was interesting. I walked in with my friend(guy who trained me) and he told me his driveshaft came off while he was returning last night, hit a bump and out it came(POS unmaintained straight truck of course). said two cars ran it over, but no one was hurt so thats good. He didnt get out till almost 10 last night by the time the tow truck came and everything.

When I got my bills I had my old stewards truck and phone again, im guessing they are going to assign me it! Truck could be better but better then a straight truck. Had 4 stops in the next city over which were all fairly close together, was finished at about 11 and then got a pickup that needs to be picked up early. Ok thats fine, Im cool with the guys there so it was fun to go. After that my boss says take your half hour lunch which I do then return. After that and I a returning he sends me two pickups a few towns over. NBD I know where they both were so it was easy. At my last one he sends me another one which is my favorite since my buddy works there.

After all that I go back and its a little after 3 and he sends me to Home Depot. Which that one if they send early they really got nothing. As im leaving another co-worker im friends with pulls in, so I say ok hes getting whatever now. On my way to HD I pass this nutcase in his straight truck so I say once again ok Im not getting anything good when I get back, NBD I dont wanna be out all night, I got beef ribs marinating at home.

Go to HD and was in and out, even the dispatcher was shocked so he says come back for another hook. I go back and the nutcase in the straight truck isnt back yet, and no one else is in the yard. After I back in the nutcase pulls in, sees me and FLIES to his door. After I had the truck un-hooked and ready to go, I go onto the dock, pass the asst TM and the outbound supervisor, and th enutcase is FLOORING his truck in reverse to the door. I walk into the dispatch room to wait and I saw I was getting the swap bigelow tea run. The asst manager walks up to the window and hands it to me, and the nutcase ran into the office and the asst manager says to him, go home thats the last of the work today, Its now 345, I wouldve LOVED to go home that early but I was back first and I wont turn down extra work. I never know if I will work the next day.

So I put my stuff out of my first trailer away and the nutcase is giving me the most dirtiest looks. A senoir guy backed in and he asked where I was going and I told him and he was like ok cool, do you know if theres any more work. I said no this is the last and he was like ok ill take the six hour and 45 minute work day(hes in at 9) The nutcase went to him and was said whatever and the senoir guys says well you shouldve came back right away then hiding and sleeping somewhere then RIGHT? As I pull out another senoir guy gets back early(7am starter) and I no he dont care about this, he just wants to go home. As I do my pre-trip my friend returns(one who was there earlier before HD) He asked where I was going, told him and he says alright my friend, make that big money.

Now normally I go to Bigelow at 4:30-6:15 at night depending on how busy the day was. It is 42 miles away each way, with a 48' van we swap out. Normally it takes with traffic 1.5-2.5 hours to get there. Well today I got lucky, hit very little traffic going there, and NONE back!!!. And normally it takes me time to move the trailers around and its very very very tight with the 48' but I was able to get it in on 1 shot. I left their at 6pm and NOT 7-8 like USUALLY!!! Got back to yard at 7, and left. Two more guys were still out when I was back but were pulling in as I was leaving

I can't stand local more than I can't stand OTR. There are all sorts of local driving positions available around here but I won't do it. My friend offered me a job at US Foods and I said forget it. MBM is also hiring saying 65,000 first year and I won't bite. Too many others to list. I'm too lazy to do local anymore, plus I need to get away from the wife. I wish Reddaway would let me run for a week straight. Then give me 2 days off. That would be perfect.

Smart man. When I was single I hated being on the road. All though I did have some fun times out there.

To bed here at 309, via 261. Woohoo! This time I got plenty of cash on hand to bribe dispatchers to keep me out. :yes2557: Had to wait 1/2 hour for a room, they were full. First time that's happened here. Hope I get sent to Buffalo this evening like last time. That would be tits.

Hhaha! I have to say that when I was OTR there were a lot of mom and pop companies out there plus Watkins, CF, Motor Cargo. There were good paying jobs, fast trucks and good home time. Sometimes we would get stuck somewhere and go out drinking. One time at a blues festival in Memphis, TN. That was a night I'll never forget! A bunch of times in Dallas, TX and a few in El Paso. We went across the border into Boys Town with a guy called Papa Smurf. He would bus you over for 5 bucks. Cool place for a young guy in 1998. Several times in Carlstadt, NJ at and Irish bar/restaurant. We worked hard but played even harder! Can't do that anymore. Things sure have changed since then. I'd say after 2003 things really started going down hill out there and continue to. Like Squonk, it is out of my system. In fact I haven't touched a drink in several years. I just lost my taste for it. There was a time I couldn't live without it. Booze and women always went hand in hand for me but now I don't drink and I'm trying to stay away from the woman I married. Get this, I'm only 40! LOL
