While I hate government regulation this is a situation where if they are going to regulate one piece of the business they need to regulate the whole thing.

it would be nice if "legal" didnt change their mind every five years

this should be legislated on what is right, not political whims
if 11 hrs is right, then why change it, if it is wrong, why enforce it? you cant say legal when legal is not based upon right, but based upon financial motivations and board members passing laws that help their financial institutions (i hear don lacy from Prime is on the sleep apnea manufaturer's board)

this is why the whole thing is bogus, and people who submit to it are sheeple

you are a grown man, endowed by your creator to certain inalienable rights, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness

unless you are running drugs or a kidnapping ring, what we do here is legal and is within our HUMAN rights to take care of our family

are you really wanting the government to tell you when to go to sleep and how long to sleep? how many of us here sleep for 10hrs? after 6hrs, i am pacing the floor and by the time the 10hr break is up, i am ready to go back to sleep

when i am tired i sleep, when i am not tired, i drive

is that too hard a concept for people to accept?

if other drivers do not follow it, that is not my problem, you cannot legislate stupidity, all you wind up doing is passing laws that make no sense

Why???? If you have a problem with a customer then don't work with them.

This has to do with shippers/receivers and how they have the ability to force someone into HAVING to jeopardize their lively hood in best case and the public safety on the extreme end. I have been at a Walmart DC that a driver took a stand after a 6 hour unload time. Walmart called a wrecker.

Sure a broker may be a richard but can't place that kind of pressure on you to move you truck if you feel it is unsafe or illegal.

What??? Sure a broker can. They can threaten or actually deduct pay if you don't make the receiving appointment, whether legal or not. They can also threaten to not give you anymore business, just like a shipper or receiver.

    Brokers lie plain and simple.

Case in point. My last broker. He told me it HAD to be there between 8and noon today.

When I called the consignee, I found out the load had to be there next Tuesday by 4:30.

I delivered yesterday because it was to MY benefit.

A simple phone call on Tuesday showed me this lie.

And they are pretty immune from and recourse.

I had a good one yesterday. I got to my destination (close to home) and broker calls me up asking if I can "do a favor." Apparently there is a load that needed to go to the east coast. I had just barely legally made it into the receiver and was trying to get some sleep while I was in line to be unloaded. After I got done there I was going home.

He calls me up and asks if I can run it to the east coast. I say no. Calls back says "if I have someone on the NY side meet you just over the border in NY, can you do that?" No. Call back again asks if I can bring the load to Detroit and cross dock it to another truck there. No. What part about out of hours is so difficult to comprehend? This is the first load I did for this guy and if it leaves a sour taste in his mouth why I won't do that then so be it. There are plenty of fish in the sea. It also occurred to me, what happens if the american truck doesn't show up and now I have this load on my truck, which I cannot bring back to Canada?? Now I am basicly screwed and end up taking it the whole way. That s*** don't fly with me, sorry.

That was his intent.....His name wasn't "Jonathan" was it?

I had load from Long Beach, CA to Safford, AZ about 600 miles....This guy "Jonathan" didn't give me the load confirmation until 1400 and the load wouldn't be ready until after 1630....

Then after I loaded....The shipper tells me that it has to be in Safford at 0600 MST......
I called up the BCO to tell him that there was no way to drive through LA traffic.....Arrive in Saffrod and have time for a reset to legally unload....Not to mention this was in the winter so there was an hour difference between Cali and AZ...

He didn't answer his phone so I left a message....

The next morning I was camped out at Tonopah about 200 miles away....I get a call from him asking why I wasn't already there....It was 0500 hours.....

So I told him "What part of the Hours of service do you not get?".....
Then he replied "What part of getting the load to the receiver no matter what you don't get?"

Needless to say...I won't take loads from "Jonathon" ever again.....

No it wasn't a Jonathan. Was a local broker who I used to do work for when I was still operating under previous employer's authority and now have the opportunity to haul directly for. But it is the same old games, doesn't ever plan anything that can be legally written on paper, does not care about what happens to the driver. He can call me when he is in a bind now. I have other customers who respect it when we discuss a load and when it can be picked and delivered, if the time can't be done then I tell them don't give me the load. So far it has always worked out. If they think they can do better then they can buy their own trucks and do it themselves.
