In 2003 i participated as an infantryman during the invasion of Iraq. I left my post putting myself and one other in mortal danger. As a result I was ambushed and forced deeper into the town of Bilad. Lost and in danger I took posession of a an Iraqi and his personal vehicle in order to return to base, with the other soldier by my side. I was convicted of assault w/a loaded firearm X2, and forcible theft w/a loaded firearm. none of these things show on a nanational background check due to security measures but i try to be honest with all companies that i contact (20+). unfortunately only swift and us xpress have even considered my application. Neither have as yet responded, does anyone have advice?

I myself was in the army, don't bring it up unless they ask. If they do ask on this specific mission discuss it with them. I think they will understand. My opinion.
If others ask you specific details on your mission from this post. Do they (you) have a need to know?:smt068

Army vet here too... I agree raise it if it is brought up only.

Most companies want felonies to be either 7 or 10 years old... you are close.

Try Western Express, I have heard they work with felons.

    felonneedsajob Thanks this.

Check your record sometimes that doesn't show it might be considered out side the country

I dont think it will shop up, what kind of UCMJ did you receive? I dont see how anyone should have a problem with that. Do you have prior trucking experience?

    felonneedsajob Thanks this.

i appreciate the feedback. i was thinking of just keeping silent about this on applications, though it was a general courtmartial and i did time in a military prison, i am pretty sure a security clearance is required to check into the files held by the fbi. i have no prior experience in trucking and the school i am talking to requires two pre-hires for felons.

Keep it quiet ! It is not a felony in the sense they look for. this was a military tribunal and most never show on your background due to security. If they ask then by all means tell them. Been there done that !

Here is an idea. Apply for your TWIC card, and Hazmat if possible. They will do the background checks on you, if your not a threat they will issue it. Don't say a word about your military. With my military and civilian background I won't travel outside the states. I worked for prime and told them no Canada, and they understood....

If I was in charge of hiring someone, that story would cause me to bump you up to number 1 on the hire list. I don't know why you left your post, but dam, you served and was resourceful enough to get out of a jam. I can't hold it against you, now if you did that same crime in the US that would be different, but you were in a war --- It's not for me to judge.

Here's a thought. If they do find out, and you never told them, you are liable to be fired for with holding the fact you had a felony. Your Felony is over 7 years. Doubt that would keep you from getting a job.
