Wedge, I had that problem with a Columbia. It turned out the jaws weren't lubed enough. Occasionally we had to use a stick to open it up after pulling the release.

    Wedge Thanks this.

HI all! Been doing the Workman's Comp thing for far too long now. FINALLY got the all clear from the Doc Friday afternoon. Lucky for me, my rotator cuff was not torn. Thank goodness! But.....I do have a bone spur on my shoulder that will eventually need surgery. Got a wonderful cortisone shot (OUCH!) in my shoulder and was a real wuss for about 45 minutes after. Went home and took some pain meds and went to sleep. Called Liberty Mutual, gave them the info., and got the all clear from them. Now just waiting to hear from USX workmans comp people. I know I have to redo the push/pull test, but not sure if I have to do the entire agility test. Then comes the fight for a truck that my husband can ride with me in. Hopefully, the stars will align and all will go well and my new FM will get me some super loads.

Good to see all these new folks coming in. Hope you all have a great experience with this company! I've had my issues with them, but am happy overall with the company itself. For all you old timers :biggrin_25517:, keep on getting it down the road. Hopefully, I'll be seeing you soon!

Lack of lube is not the problem. The release lever works fine manually and with the air actuator. I tried opening the jaws with a wrecking bar I keep on the truck, no dice. There's a real mechanical issue going on with the 5th wheel, and I think it failed because of the bouncing around this truck does when the tranny goes into "CA" mode anytime I have to back a heavy load on a 90.

I just came back from talking with the technician who will work on this truck. He's thinking this is going to turn into a big deal. The clutch on this auto is most likely screwed and the trannys coming out. If that's the case, I'm pushing for a re-seat.

    > Orientation is 3 days. You'll be road tested, get your physical, take an agility test, watch videos, and fill out plenty of paperwork. At the end of orientation, you'll be assigned a trainer and hit the road. You'll need to complete 120 hours behind the wheel (I think that's the new number). It used to be 150 hours, but USX has made some changes to their training program.

    > When your finished with your OTR training, you'll return to a terminal for upgrading. They'll road test you again, then you'll team up with another student for 8 weeks. When your 8 weeks are complete, you can continue to team or go solo, your choice.

Hi Wedge, So you did your 120 hours with a trainer, then USX assigned a truck to yourself and a student for 8 weeks? The USX recruiter disclosed the 120-150 training, but did not mention the 8 weeks spent with another student. May I ask if you did your CDL schooling free with USX ? Or did you pay for and attend CDL school on your own before getting your position at USX ?

I am wondering why the recruiter is not telling me about the 8 weeks with another student. I went to CDL school on my own, and am looking for work since graduation last month.

Can assigned trucks be at any USX terminal or are all assigned trucks picked up at one particular terminal? (after the 8 weeks) At what point were you able to get your tools and stuff from home loaded in your assigned truck?

Great thread. Very helpful. Good luck with your book in progress.

    Greetings ml48603.

I've been with USX for almost a year and a half. The training program was different when I started.

USX does not run a CDL school. All new drivers must have a CDL in hand before attending orientation.

I was out with my trainer for 150 hours of BTW training. After which, I was upgraded to solo driver status at our Tunnel Hill, GA terminal. There was no 8 week teaming period for new drivers at that time.

I received my truck assignment in Tunnel Hill, and then headed to our terminal in Ellenwood, GA where I park. I took a few days off, then loaded up my truck with my gear and hit the road.

Recruiting is your best source for detailed information on our current training program. Since the change was incorporated, I'm only familiar with general information. If you ask, I'm sure they will provide you with all the information you need.

Your FM will help you co-ordinate getting home to pick up your gear after you upgrade at the end of your time out with a trainer.

We have available trucks at a variety of locations. Your truck assignment, many times, will originate at the location of your upgrade.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

And thanks.....the book's coming along little by little.

    Hello There. :biggrin_25511:

    YAWN. :biggrin_25518:

I'm still here in Markham. My trucks been in the shop and it's.......well.....skull and crossbones will sum it up best.

The 5th wheel is wasted so it's getting replaced, but the clutch in this auto shift is also in need of replacement. Not all of the parts are available.

    So...........

I now have a new truck assignment. 2012 Cascadia with 174K. That'll do.

Except..........I opened the door to fire it up and give it a once over and it was white inside.......like snow. :biggrin_2556: The fire extinguisher blew on the previous driver......poor guy.

Accommodating as I am, trudging my way through chemical flame retardant is not one of my desired activities. I did manage to jump in and fire the beast up and get back out without anything sticking to me. So I agreed to be re-seated in that truck........if........they can make the interior pristine.

The clean-up guys took the truck, threw out just about everything that wasn't bolted down, and cleaned her inside and out. Of course, all of this occurs at night, so a thorough inspection wasn't possible.

But this morning I did give it a real close examination and ended up with a list of items that need to be repaired before I move in.

And the the chemical residue?..............Well, they got most of it, but it still needs more attention.

    So I have 2 trucks..........the one I want.........and the one I have.

    Can't use the one I have.......can't move into the one I want.........guess I'm a 'tweener'.

Huh.......first time I ever used that word.

    Thanks for reading

Hello Wedge and all....thought I would throw out my two cents on how things are for me so far at USX....going week 4 @ home on a 34 leaving out Tuesday for Rutland Vt to Syracuse NY unload reload somae place to New Carlisla Indiana, then relaod to Tracotr Supply to Hagerstown Md...then if luck has it a relaod out of there back home!!!!..5 days out two off!!! loving that.but I might opt my hometime to stay out threw till next Friday for extra cash. and yes MILES!!!!...but it all depends on the little thing called.....( everyone say it with me........) my RECAP HOURS!!....being off today might kick me but will will see... for the most part I like the job...and my truck..just found today ( wedge) I was switch to another FM!!!! lets see how he does......I dont want to lose the weekend dispatcher (MTPOOLE) he is awesome!!!!! he is the one that has me book out till Friday!!!!! but one thing I dont understand and mayne someone can answer....why does USX like doing "live loads" if they know it takes over 7hours!!!!????? boy that hurts the wallet alot!!..not to mention the wife nagging me to make more...lol...oh well I guess i will not make the "driver apprciation" cook out this week since I am not going by any terminal on my routing......so if anyones does please have a hamburger for me with mustard and relish...thanks.......well will post again when i get a chance...hey WEdge are u rolling yet??????

Glad you're liking it so far, Brian.

There's almost no escaping live loads and they are time killers to be sure. I've found that most of my D&H work happens in the mid-west and south-east. I don't get to your region that often with the exception of NJ, MA, PA, and NY. My N/E trips are mostly repeats of runs I've made in the past.

I think if you stayed out longer you'd see more D&H work.

Let's see how it goes with your new FM.

    Am I rolling?...........eh............kinda.
