    Dear TR Forum,

You work for a trucking outfit that has no scale. You have filled up with diesel recently so your tanks are full. You are 300 miles from your origin. You cross a state line and have to use the weigh station. You are also 300 miles from your destination. Your milk tanker is deemed overweight by 100 pounds. You do not want to drive this way so you may avoid tickets. What do you do?

I am asking this because most trucking companies do not have truck scales.

    Thanks,

Remember to not fill the tanks so full next time. I have never had a ticket written for only a hundred pounds.

Thanks Jbatmick. So let's say the tanker is 500 or 1000 pounds overweight. What then? Eat the ticket? Call the home company and ask for advice? Thanks, Shadow.

if you tend to run close to gross weight with all your loads...the above advice is correct...we hauled produce and ran right at gross nearly 100 % of the time......dont fill up before you go to load. if you have to fuel before you deliver your last load, and are almost to your destination, and dont have far to go to reload, or not sure where reload is....dont top off.....course dont go in with low fuel either...cuz then you spend the next trip fueling 50 gal. at a time...lol ..and of course, i am not DOT..but we have never had trouble before only being 100 pounds over...

If you draw a paycheck from a company, call and ask them for instructions. Might even inquire before the occasion arises.

if you know you are overweight, it might be best to go ahead and call your company...and tell them...if you are overeight because of too much fuel..hey mistakes happen..you dont want to get an overweight ticket either...

its gonna depend on the state..i have had CA let me go before up to 500 # over axle..but that was years ago.....1000 # is probably pushin it

i would say call your company....but if you know you are overweight..and there were no scales...have you alrdy gotten a ticket???

realize too, that if you are going to be crossing a weigh station over weight, that you are likely to be inspected....so make sure that nothing else is wrong...paperwork, logbook etc in order, dont make it any worse ...

scale it at the closest public scale. if over call company. I always fuel up, so if they scale you upon arrival at the shipper ,they don't overload me. fuel is part of my trucks weight.
if I'm over they need to take some off or I ain't draggin' it,, simple.

Assuming it's too late to do anything about it. I would go around the Weigh Stations.
Had some Watermelons that got rejected they reloaded it wrong. Ended up going around the Only weigh station.

    Don't get caught doing it.
