i drove fleece for trans am. quite with the two weeks notice, dropped tractor off at olathe. a month later they hit me for almost 3k in tractor damages. that was done before i got the truck. luckely i had pictures to prove it. longs story short they dropped the bill. the first six months i drove for them i grossed 69000.00 after there tractor payment/ins. fuel maint. i cleared a little over 9k. i stayed out 3weeks at a time, took only 2-3 days off. spent alot of time waiting at the meat packing plants. they would have me get there way to early for the load so there was no detention pay. call and complain about sitting and you will end up doing a 34 before you get a load, my guess is these guys who are talking so good about TA are lease drivers trying to get a referrel bonus. so they can make there payments on the truck.

Good for you! Yes, Schneider does have some nice signing bonues, but they only seem to be within reach of non-recent grads. Whenever I reach for them, they go "POOF". The 90 cents for deadheading is GREAT! That is why I never expedited in my van---okay, I get $1.15/mile loaded, but with 25% deadheading, I am barely clearing 77 cents!
True dat: I would ONLY be an O/O if I OWNED the truck and plates. What many L/Pers don't understand is that they do NOT own the plate! The company can snatch it away thus rendering your truck immoblile, or if you move it, illegal.
Interesting--you got LTL stuff, aye? Did it not pay the same as full truck load?
Your original page is a sticky on my computer desktop--not for the waving the TransAm pom-poms but for all the insight you provided. I feel like I have six months experience just by reading that page.
Good continued fortune to you lad. Keep posting please.Last edited: Sep 18, 2012

After looking at the TransAm Logistics corporate site I see they declare themselves a Truckload carrier:
[We are a non-asset subsidiary of TransAm Trucking, a privately owned, asset-based 48-state authority truckload carrier. TransAm Logistics was established to support all your transportation needs outside the realm of TransAm Trucking's service coverage.]
It further states they perform the following services, including LTL:
[TransAm Logistics is a leading North American third party logistics company providing multi-modal transportation solutions including truckload, linehaul, temperature control, flatbed, intermodal, LTL, expedited and power-only.]
I am still unclear as to the distinction between TransAm Trucking and TransAm Logistics. Whatever the case, my point is that there should be heathy rates related to these services. If even a percentage of those rates were passed on to the lease operator, he would be earning easily double the paltry mileage rate being offered.
Even on regular multi-stop truckload freight, I wonder how many of their operators are aware that companies usually charge $100-150 per extra stop. And it's not unusual for them to collect $75+ per hour after a two hour wait.
Sure, there is some decent money to be made, but anybody in a lease operator situation will never see any of it.nicholas_jordan and CastingMyFateToTheWind Thank this. -
i call BS, seems like every other lease driver i ever talked to was going in the hole. the only ones that wasnt was the ones training, or cooking the books, that was of course before the elog.
if you are stupid enough to do a lease, then at least do yourself a favor. before you get the keys to that truck take as many pictures of it as you can. no matter how small or minor. -
the sad truth is leasing isn't a good option for any newbie
after 35 years owning my own buisness i leased with no delusions about it
i make a living doing it no horror stories and negative checks
i am not a trainer and realize most mistakes are of my own making
life is about chioces not blame
i am part of everything that happens to me
i am not a victim of big bad trans am
this weeks check net was 1389.40
omg how will i survivejdmredneck33 Thanks this. -
