I keep mine on also with the volume just loud enough for me to hear. I look at it as another tool to make my job easier and safer.

Agreed, low volume but available. Mine saved my bacon more than once and gave me more than a few laughs.

Another channel outside the mainstream would help too. Some of the old "A" channels, lower or upper side of ?? Find a way to structure what the Canadians do on VHF.... all good options IMO.

It amazes me how some 'grown men' behave when you put a mic in their hand. I refer to the C.B. Radio as the fountain of youth, helping many a man act like he's back in junior high school.

Your instructor isn't stuck that far back in time. Even in the short time I've been out here there has been a dramatic change. Reports of backups, people/cops on the shoulder etc. have almost disappeared. I keep it on low like many but don't use it much except to let people know about backups and stuff.

I have not had a CB in years and don't ever plan on getting another one. I keep my sat radio at a very low volume. Anyone that can't hear a tire explode even with music up needs a hearing check. There's q huge difference between music and an explosion.

we have one...but hardly use it...too much crap, and when we hauled for Fed Ex Custom Critical...we couldnt discuss WHAT we were hauling....so we got in the habit of not using it. if it was like the old days out here, sure we would run one. but you dont get bear reports, you dont get back up reports etc...VERY RARELY does someone tell you that something is going on. i tried several times a few weeks ago to warn other drivers of the road being closed due to wrecks on more than one occsasion..NO REPLY.....so whats the use??

How about a "truck driver" channel so the "real supertruckers" can talk about their 900HP Cat pulling them over the Grapevine at 140 MPH.
Meanwhile the rest of us could just leave our radio on in case of emergency, like channel 23 or whatever. Only talk if you are giving someone important emergency information (like Obama sucks).

I know, I know... Organizing truck drivers is like herding cats.
