I hate this job so much, I went and bought my own truck.

Now I get to tell the boss off every day when I get upset.

And there isn't a thing the guy can do about it....

I must chime in as I've been thinking about this for a while.I think the part that burns me the most (not that I'm over the road currently), is to see the sacrifice of living in the back of a truck for weeks on end and lucky to bring home an adequate wage.I read this forum nearly every day and the countless large percentage (not every one) of truckers out there are sitting for days waiting for a load some times, being screwed over on their dac report, and working a skilled and stressful profession only yielding 400 to 500 a week "if you've got it pretty good". Hearing about some that are only making 200 to 300 a week and staying out for weeks makes me ill. It's an outrage! How the hell can you support any thing on that kind of money? Makes me sad because it seems like there is just no respect for a whole lot of people that deserve it. Just my opinion. Thanks for listening.

Sadly, I tend to agree with most of what was said. Now my experience was different as I bought my own truck, never had been in one before, and put my two years in that way. I start this week driving hauling plants. I like the idea of getting out of the truck to unload the plants. Never any back hauls other than maybe moving plants from one location to another. I spoke with many drivers who had been there 10 years plus, the guy who gave me my raod test had been there 19 years and had been out of the truck flr 2 months because of knee surgrey and was not set to drive again for another month. He was on "light duty " work checking logs and such.

So maybe I've found a place that takes care of drivers. I passed on Kansas Transit to work here locally in Aquatic Wildlife Manangment, my dream job all day in a boat eletroshocking fish to collect data the worst oart was spraying weeds .....BUT......work got slow and I started bring home $200 a week checks!!!!!!!

Sure wish I would have headed to Kansas when Stan said "i'm sending a truck to pick you up and I'll advance you a weeks pay"

I've done many things over the years; television field reporter, sold tv/radio ads, trained dogs, worked at Carrier building A/C units, ranch hand, wildlife management, sold moblie homes/cars. Even as a college grad (which I thought meant something at one time) I will have to say I LOVE DRIVING A TRUCK!!!!!!!!!

For so reason my tablet won't let me scroll to continue at the bottom but if you care to the next paragraphs last line should read I don't think my kids always understand why I'm gone but I've had many jobs and I love the solitude, time for reflection, ability to see the US (even though I had traveled a ton), getting to see different places everyday. I love it !!!!!

You other drivers can think what you want about this statement but I can assure I will not drive a truck for less than a grand a week! Period ! No if ands or butts!

ANY JOB AND I DO MEAN ANY I'VE EVER HAD I'm GRATEFUL SOMEONE GAVE IT TO ME! If I don't like it or was mislead I'm gone!

I won't be yelling or screaming (ok maybe twice) but I simply move on. I always read my contracts, terms and conditions what not and if I agree to them I do my joband don't ##### about it. I will say that people have not been truthful with me or misrepersented the facts in the TRUCKING INDUSTRY more than any other by a far and away margin. However, you can see how this line of work attracts a certain kind of person too.
Sure the EPA and government regs are out of control, broker/shippers/ a trailer manfactuer all screwed me over at one time or another while I was an O/O, at times other drivers can make me embaressed to be a trucker, I don't my kids (3 boys a 4yr old and 2 three yr old twins)

Somedays are better than others, by and large I am over it... But, I am trapped by the money I make and the living standards that my years in trucking has brought. If I truly despised it, I would get out... when the week is over though, I can't get out of the truck and yard soon enough!!!

Sounds like the whole bunch of you just aren't cut out to be truck drivers.
When I started back in 1865, we didn't even have hours of service rules we just drove until we passed out and crashed into a tree. Then we'd pull the truck out of the ditch with our bare hands and sleep under it for about 10 minutes them drive another 5000 miles until we got where we were going. I remember getting pulled over by a cop in Texas and he asked me where I was going and I said hell none of your #### buisnezs and kicked him in the balls.
And we used to have to fight bears or alligators ( depending on which part of the country you were in)just to get into the truck stops.
Hell, the whole bunch of you probably don't even know the rules of being a truck driver
    1) get the hell out of my way.
    2) stay the hell out of my way.
But it ain't like that anymore.
Nobody even dresses like Richard Petty these days!!!!
    It sucks now.:biggrin_25523:
