Roehl, losing faith in them quickly...

Lets kick all the illegal aliens out of the country. Then we can have our jobs back that pay more than minimum wage.

 

Are you male or female? I got pre-hired at Roehl and the recruiter told me I would have to wait longer to get a student trainer because I'm female and not all driver trainers (which apparently are all male) will take females. My natural response is to ask if some driver trainers won't take blacks or jews too, since apparently Roehl is stuck in the 1950's. Of course I didn't say that, but I wanted to. This is upsetting especially after your post. I think men and women should be treated the same and no one should have to be put up with discrimination. I also can't help but feel like this is the first of a series of discriminating events that would occur if I were at Roehl. Because if companies discriminate, they discriminate across the board. Unfortunately I'm 21 and a new grad and Roehl is probably my best offer, discrimination or not.

Has anyone else experience this type od discrimination? I wonder how long I will have to wait.

You'll be waiting on a trainer, for sure, but not because of your jew/negro wisecrack. And it has only a little to do with the fact you're a female. Roehl is a good outfit that actually takes the time to make sure its trainers are qualified to train, unlike some outfits in the industry. This means trainers will be in short supply, and for good reason.

If you want a trainer tomorrow, go to another company. I can think of one that won't keep you waiting. The trainer you get may have only 6 months' experience himself, and he may have been trained by a "trainer" who in turn had only 6 months' experience, but you'll get 'im.

 

The send you a letter of "pre-hire" and say job offers aren't permanent until after orientation is done. Orientation is when they start looking at your information and tell you can stay or go. It's cheaper for them to wait and see who shows up at orientation than to process everyone's paperwork.

 

I just called the recruiter. I guess driver trainers have to go through a "rigorous" training before they let men train women. There are women trainers, but only a few and none in my area. I'm all for good training, but I don't think it should take long to teach a trainer how not to sexually harass women. And apparently a man has never sexually harassed another man.

I know lack of female trainers is an industry wide problem, so I won't ##### about that, I'll just capitalize on it when I have 6 month's experience.

 

If you were going with Swift, you could become a trainer after that 6 months is up.

 

Exactly....do I have to work at Swift for 6 months or just have 6 month's experience? They have to know that any other companies training is better than theirs.

Why do you work there?

 

I don't think Roehl was discriminating, I think the drivers were expressing they don't want to train females. I could think of a few reasons I wouldn't want to drive with a female. I've seen trainers that posted they didn't want any more females because they had to hit a rest area every two hours (I'm not saying it's that way with EVERY female). Some of these guys are married and have a wife that wouldn't want them riding around with another woman for a two weeks at a time.

 

HLaird I am one of those trainers that's less than thrilled to train females. I did it once and never again. The lady in my truck was a great driver and easy to get along with. That being said go hop in a room smaller than a bathroom with a strange guy for two weeks and let me know how you felt. Privacy is hard to come by in a truck and having a student of the other sex in the truck only takes away more of it.
