Alright, I don't know if this is a sign I shouldn't go to Covenant or not, but right now my DOT Physical is holding me from the Orientation process. I'm tentatively signed up for Orientation next week but their Safety department has not cleared my physical due to something SO minor and insignificant.
At my physical 5 months ago when I got my permit, the doctor noticed I had a low grade heart murmur- the lowest grade possible. He noted "no limitation" on the comments section. I had no idea I even had a murmur until then.
So Covenant says I need to make an appointment with my primary care physician, which I do not have a family doctor. They want this new doctor to sign off and say I don't have a significant murmur and that it is not going to limit me in any way. Well this started to bother me so I call the clinic I had the DOT Physical done at, and speak to the doctor directly. He said that first of all the company should give you ANOTHER physical but they are not required to and can take the one from when I got my permit. #2, a murmur is a SOUND and not a limitation, he said he would not have cleared me if something needed to be done about it. He noted his comments that it says grade 1/6, no limitation. He said what more do they want? I have checked the box that says you meet the standards, why are THEY trying to play medical examiner? He was more than willing to help me out.
So I call Covenant back and tell them this, and the recruiter says their Safety dept will not clear people even if the doctor writes "no limitations." That they want my primary care physician to pretty much "clear" me. I said I do not have a PCP.
This is just bull...
So what if Covenant gives me another physical but their doctor writes "no limitations" ??? Would they have preferred the doctor left the comment section blank? so it makes it sound like I have something really wrong with me?

They want a 2nd opinion. Go to a walk in Clinic and ask for another physical and talk to the doctor about the low grade heart mumur.

Employers have seen less than thorough DOT physicals, though yours sounds like a it was rigorous.
The cost of a driver losing control of a truck, due to a medical condition, on a packed highway is way less than asking for a second opinion. Much less than passing on a single candidate.
Are you in good physical health elsewise? Proper weight to height ratio, non-smoker etc? Nothing that would contribute or exacerbate a heart condition at an expedited rate?

It seems someone in the safety department also has a medical degree.
Heart murmurs are as common as hang nails.

pick a differant company. if they are going to be that picky right out of the box you don't want them. you don't want to get three or four years invested and then have them drop you. there are plenty of companies that wont care about your murmor.

Thanks Iceman.I was wondering if this murmur thing was something that ALL companies would care about or not. Do you think smaller companies would care? What are some smaller companies that still hire recent grads, or does anyone come to mind?

i dont know what region you live in. so i can't really say what small companies are around you. what state do you live in

I'm a little confused why you have a 5 month old medical card and permit? That's something you normally get after you go to school.
Go to a $40 walkin clinic to get checked out and cleared. Preferably one that does DOT physicals so they are familiar with DOT medical regulations.
You can google "<your town> walk in clinic" and find one.
