Roehl 7/4 7/3

My best friends husband did the 7/3 7/4 thing. While he always got home as promised, and I guess made the money as promised (well kind of), it turned out to be far from enough to support his family. Because the way this is structured, he would have one decent week (never great, not enough miles for that), and then the next week the pay was almost non existent.

The equipment was ok, the other driver he shared with was ok, but it just wasn't a good fit for him.

 

The 7/4-7/3, 7/7, and now 14/7 fleets were intended for drivers who wanted part time work with full time miles. If you are looking at these fleets to give you as much pay as you would get running nationwide, you are probably going to be dissapointed. That said, I heard two days ago that 300-350 of the 1700 drivers Roehl has, is in one of these fleets, so I guess they work for some people.

 

They now have a 14/7 fleet? That's news to me... thanks for that info. Any idea if it's available everywhere or to the same people as the 7/3-4?

 

This might work for you. You're 21, so 7/4 7/3 might be a great way to break into the industry.

(Personally, I had orientation set up for this, but decided the money just wasn't right for my situation).

 

Nah, I'm not really interested in it for me--just interested in knowing about it. I intend to run national flatbed. The more days I'm home, the less money I'm making. I've got no reason to be home.

 

I think it's only available at Marshfield, Gary, and Ellenwood.

 

I drove for Roehl on the 7/7 program and it worked out very good for me. I operated out of the Akron,OH drop yard,(Mogadore).and there were drivers out of there on the 7/3 7/4 program.They kept me rolling pretty good on my 7 days out. I averaged around 3100 miles for a 7 day period.Not too shabby if you are looking for a part time position.I can understand how this would not work out for someone raising a family and needing more money. One thing you gotta remember is that if you run a legal log book,you are limited as to how many miles you run. And yeah Roehl does keep a close eye on your logs.Not like the old days when you could get away with a lot of creative logging.

 

I'm a 7-4/7/3 driver with Roehl and I just got in after 13 days out. I say that not out of complaint, but to illustrate that no matter what program you are on with any company, you must be FLEXIBLE if you are going to work out in trucking. Sure it was inconvenient not to get home on time, but we're out there to run freight and I run the freight they give me when I'm out there. In fairness to Roehl, had I insisted on going home on day 7 they probably would have gotten me there, but a load needed to go the other way and that kept me out a little longer. My situation is slightly different from most other drivers' as I am a confirmed bachelor with no children and I can "roll" with a change of plans if need be. I would probably view this picture differently if there was a wife and children at the house. If staying out this much longer than planned became a consistent problem, I might look around for what I could do to solve it; would just have to deal with it as wisely as possible when the time comes. I am still a very new driver (almost one year), but one of the first things I learned out here is trucking is ruled by infinite chaos and while you can't control the chaos that rules the industry you can keep it from ruling your own heart and mind. One of the ways you keep it from doing so is have a keen sense of what problems you will "roll with the punch" on and what problems you will fight over. Just common sense.

 

I'm new here and looking at roehl can a newbie do well at this company?? Thanks for your input!!
