Sometimes you can't turn around. Case in point: I say an os load parked on the shoulder in PA on the interstate. When I came back by a couple hours later he was still there, now with a cop behind him. He was over a mile past the last off ramp.

The answer is situation dependant. Sometimes you need to call for professional help. I'm assuming they waited for night and blocked traffic so he could back up to the last off ramp.

On self adjusting brakes, chock the tires, release tractor and trailer brakes, and depress service brake to the floor for three seconds, repeat ten times. Oh yeah, be on level ground. Check the brakes and repeat if necessary. This works wonders when your tandems won't slide because your brakes are incorrectly adjusted.

The way I adjust brakes is to tighten down slack adjuster until it won't go any farther and then back it off 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. in bad winter weather I'll back off tractor brakes a little more to help prevent jack-knifing. (my 2 cents)

auto adjusters break all the time, and when they do getting to a shop can take hours away from you. its just turning 4 bolts to adjust your whole trailer. as far as when, always do a tug test, and visually check for gap between the lining and the drum. the gap should be too small to see. Always be careful adjusting autos, because you cant back them off if you go to far.

Is it wrong that I skip gears when downshifting on certain occasions. Instead of say 10-9 do 10-8 for example.

nothing wrong with it unless you are winding it up way too far.

The old mechanical engines it worked with, not so much with the flatter and lower torque curves on these new engines.
