Oh gotchya. Id probably drive till 0000, then take 8 hours near the customer if possible. Then head over to the customer bout 0815, get there say 0830, go to sleeper while being unloaded, takes two hours. Got your time back and you're good to go the rest of the day.

Easy enough. My company doesn't teach split sleeper provision, so I have new guys asking me about this all the time. Not sure if other companies do.

Our company doesn't want us too because of us being a "starter" company hiring new guys. I do it because I know how to work it, so far safety hasn't said anything about my logs.

It can definitely be confusing. I tried explaining it to one of my friends with the company but he gave up. Said he'll just do 10's. I found out how useful the 8/2 is from having to be at a customer before my 10 was up.

If you run reefers, it comes in handy getting tight loads delivered on time. It can be the only way, and the company wont give you a pass if you're late and an 8/2 could've saved the load.

I wasn't sure anyone used this method any longer....after all, it takes, what....a good 10 to 20 additional seconds? I mean, I can't be killin' that much time!

But seriously....this is an excellent point, especially with cooler weather making itself quite comfortable...thank you, MNdriver!:biggrin_25514:

Someone correct me of I'm wrong, but when I do a split basically I go to sleeper for 8 hours. After 8 hours you gain back a certain amount of time. Not sure how much exactly or if there's a set amount you gain. Anyway, after 8 hours in the sleeper you can drive. Say you drive an hour to your customer and spend 2 hours in the sleeper while being unloaded. After that 2 hours you will now have all your hours back minus what you used that day. So if you drove an hour after your 8 then you would have 10 hours of drive time left.
