She is thinking like most people who think we drive 11 hours a day and do it again the next day until our 70 hours run outs. I wish that was the case. Here's a pic of my last few days and I run OTR but I have been on recap hours for the last week. 1st pic is my summary of hours notice I have 3 hours available to drive but only 31 mins left on my 14 this is from doing a slit sleeper and then taken an extra hour or 2.![]()
2nd pic is my miles I have ran the las few days. Those aren't paid miles just hub miles.

All depends on fhe load... I am on a 2000 mile NJ to laredo run... Tuesday I picked up, but had to dead head there for 1 1/2 hr... the get trailer washed... had to find washout on other side of town... drop and hook and I'm rolling... then the load needed to be scaled, tandems set, and fuel stop...of course anyone who has been to NJ in the morning knows its not really rolling... cut down to 78 and through Allentown... traffic and construction, finally made it to the 81... drove to Raphine, VA and parked... 480 miles give or take... Wed and today, nothing to do but drive... and one fuel stop, 600+ each day, parked now 370 miles from final on I35... so tomorrow will run those and deliver around 11am... appt time 8-12.
That should take around 6 hrs to drive, but because the trailer is continuing on to Mexico, I also have to stop and have it inspected before I drop it. That takes time too, so now I am up to 7 hrs... with my recap tonight I will pick up 7 plus the 3 I have left and that gives me a little cushion, but probably not enough to get out of Laredo tomorrow.
So the average for the four days will be around 500 per, but in reality it depends what is going on that day.
Btw, I have a 62mph truck and trip plan everything at 50mph.
Hope this helps you understand a little better.Last edited: Oct 11, 2012

Do your research; like the last couple of posters have said, it's all about the loads you get. It would be nice to drive the entire 11 everyday, but that is not the case, especially when u gotta deliver and pick up the same day. The 14hr rule is the one that does u in most of the time, so my advice is (if you want to maximize your earning potential) go with a company that won't make u wait hours for your next dispatch. In my current company PAMela that is the case most times unless ure under auto dispatch, where I'm in now thank God, but nothing is set in stone; next week I'll probably be back on regular dispatch. If u want a steady paycheck in this industry the best way is getting a dedicated run. Choose wisely

realistically, I have been showing it floats from 550 to 610 miles depending if I am doing more localized stuff or really long haul OTR stuff.
For planning purposes, I settled for 575 miles per day. -
^^^^^^^ Sureeeee you do

Yeah it all depends on the load. I'm leaving out of Laredo, well i'm actually long gone. Drop in Dallas then home. Hopefully!!!!

some of us keep detailed enough records we can state that for a fact. When I look at what I have done since March of this year, I can say I see an average of about 550 miles per day. Some weeks that number is a lot lower and it's really about 300 (this week is one of them.) Some weeks are much higher and its about 610. -
Hi, thanks for the posts so far. I actually realize that we do not run 11 hours per day-- Your answers have been very informative, giving me a snap shot into various driver's days, which is what I was after, anyway.
By the way, what's a "hub mile" ? -

All depends if I decided to stay within a days drive of the house or run to the west coast lately.
