Custom POI's you can. Address book you cannot. I put this in as a suggestion.

    Thanks,

Let it set for about 12 hours, then plug it into AC for 3. Try powering it on and at the same time press the reset button and hold it for about 10 seconds..

    Thanks,
    mark

OK this leads me to several questions as I have not used the custom poi function.

Are custom poi files written different than address book files,or are they the same.
Could you transfer address book files to the custom poi files and then change the icon.
Do the custom poi icons present themselves on the map screen same as the address book.
Where do you actually change the icons, right on the tnd or a special program from the poi factory.

    Thanks
    John

Custom poi are loaded via the dock software. Once loaded up, you can change the icons via the manage custom poi on the device. You cannot change icons for indivual poi, only for a group. To load the poi they need to be in a properly formatted csv file and I don't know what the exact format is. I get mine from the POI factory and they have transfered just fine.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values

    1. Different DB's (databases), and yes the Custom POI can be in a .csv format, but the data could in different sequences.

Database is a comma separated value. If you build a DB then it would look like this.

FName, LName, Address, City, State, Zip

Notice each heading is separated by a comma. There are other ASCII characters you can use, but the comma is the most used.

The address book is a set format of a CSV format. It will not change.

FName, LName, Address, City, State, Zip

The Custom POI can be in several formats. (about page 118 of the manual)

    1. Lat/Long
    2. Street Address
    3. POI Location.

Each of the above is set in a comma separated value, but the data in each of the three can be in a different sequence. (note #2 the address method has two leading comma's).

    1. lat/long, location
    2. ,,my location, phone, address, city, , state, zip, country
    3. lat/long, location, address, city, state, zip

If you have Excel or any other type of spreadsheet program you can build your own Custom POI's. You just have to do a "save as" and save it in a .csv format and then use the Dock to import them onto your TND.

    ----
yes you can use and change any icon for the group of that Custom POI. Main screen/preferences/General (device)/my custom POI's - manage custom POIs.

    ----

now technically if you are computer savvy and can navigate programs and conversion programs you can take your address book and import it into a spread sheet and then save it as a .csv file to import it as a Custom POI.

    ---

Any file you wish to import has to be in a .csv format. If you have a .gpx format there are conversion programs to convert it into a .csv format. You cannot simply rename the extension of the file. Kind of like putting a Mack Dog on your hood of a Volvo. It does not make it a Mack truck.

Hope this either helps you or really confuses you... :biggrin_255:

    Thanks,
    Mark

Someone at rand mcnally must be a star trek fan because the "new mail" sound on the tnd 760 is the doorbell sound used in star trek tgn.

Unrelated to this, the cash registers in some places, like at the T/A in sweetwater tx, use the ring sound effect from sonic the hedgehog game(sega genesis).

Something else I just remembered, the truck stops feature is in desperate need of updating.I'm talking about the big names, PILOT, FLYING J, LOVES, T/A, PETRO. Seems on just about any given day I can run accross a half dozen that my 720 dosent find. And also on that subject, with all the info on truck stops listed under the services button, why dosent it list the number off parking spaces??? The truck stop apps do!

There is a filter option for small, medium, large. Rand is in the process of updating this file.

    Thanks,
    Mark

That would be quite a job counting all the spots at every---single---truckstop. Heck, some of the managers at these places don't know themselves. Not to cause hate and discontent but how important is having the exact number of spots at any given stop? The truck stop directory which I believe RM uses has s: O-x, m: x-x etc. That works for me anyway.
