Stay where you are because if you tried to do OTR you would start out at rookie pay. They don't count local experience. So enjoy that Chi town traffic. I'll be coming through there in a few hours when there is none :) Lovin OTR hehehehe

I hear you. That's what I mean, all these recruiters are telling me 900-1000 a week. I'm not going to leave my wife and daughter at home and take a pay cut.

well like anything bwalsh you have to look out for what best for you and your family some guys have a family kids and all do otr and have no issues on other hand some just cant be away from home that long its all about whats in best interest in you and your family and what you want to be doing some guys hate local to otr or vise versa. we all know recruiters lie , lie , lie just to get you over there . iv made real good money at some companies but some barely paid 500-600 by time you took out all your expenses on the road .i think if your doing otr its cause you are doing it more for a pssion of being out on the road is what they wanna be doing .

I liked my schedule when I was local for a short while. Pretty much three 14 hour days and one 16 hour day a week so had three days off every week. No touch freight. I got paid to play video games all day for the most part. The days I did work I had no time to do anything but sleep at home but three days off a week were worth it.

I would of stayed with it but my best friend and I were offered a team dedicated that the pay was too good to pass up. Honestly, I looked forward to getting back in the truck with him, we have a good time out there. Now, I get to make a loop from CA to the east coast, back to UT then down to CA and still get two days home a week. It's a pretty nice schedule without having the drive the same exact stretch of road every shift.

I'm a local driver and most the time off weekends.True, you run hard and after your 10 brk you do it all over again. But for me it does'nt bother me.Today im not working because tyson is debugging all the plants.I haul for a company that picks up their loads.Only thing that did bother me at first about this company was the slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww slow day cabs. But im use to it now.

One of the good things about this industry is that there are all different kinds of jobs out there. If you really want to drive, your "niche" is out there, it's just a matter of finding it.

Thats is really not true. I have been offered OTR spots but there pay even counting experience just dont add up, in most case.

Well FOR THE MOST PART. Most won't count local experience. Some won't even count regional experience. Whatever they can do to get cheap labor in the seat they will do it. Some don't but the majority do. Call 10 OTR companies and I bet 8 out of the 10 won't count your local experience.

If I'm already driving local, why would I care what OTR companies think of my experience?

When you're paid by the hour, you don't really care how slow the truck is.

    hhmag70 and ACH1130 Thank this.
