Just finished my first week of training. Well actually will finish first week tomorrow after doing the maps class. Took my tests (all five) before going to class. Been on two med holds. One was couldn't get my BP down low enough (nerves), and then C-Pap. I have a machine, but had some difficulty proving compliance. We started out with like 24 people. Down to like 18. Too many people trying to get in hiding arrest history. Lots of medical-disqualifications. Finally got to drive the truck today. Thankfully I have driven before so even though I had to stand around and watch, I haven't gotten behind. Hope to start posting here daily as so many before me have done. But only if you guys want me to.![]()

Are there any disqualifications on getting hired or is it me they dont want. I applied at Stevens, and the recruiter told me it was accepted before and after 2 days later it was disqualified. I was trying to go to the Stevens school in Denver. But I have to get a pre hire before I go to that school. I was beginning to get happy they did a little interview with me and everything seemed fine. My driving record and background everything is positive. I dont see how. And when I called and talked they told me my application was declined and didnt want to tell me why. They told me to apply in 6 more months to see but I can wait that long. What should I do

Could be something as simple as you living in Miami... not much freight down that way so it may be hard to get you home again. Not sure if that is it in your case, but Florida is tough for a lot of companies.

I guess the reason why is because you live in North Miami Beach... I don't think they hire people from there. Just call them back and ask them until they tell what's going on -

Stevens has a quota of drivers from Florida. I don't know the number, but as one driver leaves and moves on, it opens a slot for another to come in. It sounds like you are in that 'waiting' area. Just be patient, or as someone else said, look and see what other opportunities might be available. Florida is a hard state to get hired from by most companies. It has a larger than average number of long term unemployed, and those are the most likely to move into trucking. It also has the distinct quality of importing most of what is consumed and nearly nothing to ship back out. So trucks come in full and scramble for anything to go back out.
Hence many trucking companies don't serve the state and the remaining ones (Stevens, being one) scramble for the scraps.
Stevens simply calculates the amount of freight that comes out and extrapolates a number of drivers it can support. Most freight going into Florida is reserved for drivers that live there. If a local driver is not available for a load into the area, we assign it to another driver. It is not uncommon to repower loads into Florida to drivers from the area, so they can get home. -
