Do most trainers at swift do what you do in regards to running it as a solo truck so you both sleep at night? Or does that vary from trainer to trainer? I am almost positive I couldn't sleep in a moving truck.

The first 50 hours or so of your driving time the truck is run as a solo truck. After that, if the mentor thinks you are ready, the truck will move to team status. You will get used to it, you have to!

Does every trainer do this though? Is it possible that a trainer will just run with the trainee as a solo truck the whole time?

Not a good idea for you or the trainer ... the trainer's primary compensation is from the additional miles the truck runs.

As for you ... you need to learn to run on your own, without anyone holding your hand. Even running as a team, trucking is an independent operation.

Yea it's the whole trying to sleep while moving thing that makes me think it would be a bad idea.

I think that you have to try to look at yourself and thing if TEACHING is for you... and dealing with an INEXPERIENCED driver,,, some of my classmates think they are truckers already and have ZERO humility and are already talking about which truck they are going to lease,,, AND they talk, and talk, and talk LOUD... THOSE ARE GOING TO BE your students...

I run the truck what is called Super Solo... That means the truck does shut down at night up to 8 hours and the three or so it takes me to come out for a shower.:biggrin_25525: Sometimes the truck only shuts down for 4 hours depending on the load. I don't run full out team because my view is you can train better and be awake just in
case something should go wrong. I don't make as much money as I use to but for me it's not about the money.. It's about the training..

Six weeks right out of a trucking school is not enough time for me to trust anyone with my life.... No offense but I've had a few things happen that scared the hell outa of me. So it works better for the student and I running super solo...

I started driving in the early 90's and been doing it off and on for the past 20 years.. made a stupid mistake and let my cDL go because i was making some serious money and thought I would never need it again back in 2008.... Wrong bad economy killed my business. I've pulled flatbed, tankers, hazmat and so on....

So I have the experience to train properly.. The person that trained me a long time ago was an excellent trainer and we had a Condo cabover.. That was fun..

You sure ya want to ride with me ?
