I thought they wanted to hire more females?? Truck drivers who know me tell me I am an ideal candidate..

Does anyone know anything about Squire's training program? ? ?

Long story short --- I Got my Physical Exam and CDL Class A permit last week and called the recruiter at Squire .. (Because he told me to call back after I got my permit.) I have talked to him a few times before.

Literally minutes after I got my permit last Friday I called thinking, "I'm ready to sign up now". And figured since I was only 9 miles from Knight (instead of 90) ,hopefully I could go in and get a face to face meeting at least..

The recruiter called me back that afternoon. I told him I have the permit now and how do I sign up? I even have already put in notice with my present employer! He said they have no available female trainers- well I had told him before that someone I know- who drives for Knight- said I could request her. He himself once said I could request a trainer. so I reminded him of her... Than he said "she hasn't been approved yet" and "she hasn't returned his calls" ... So that night I told "my pending trainer" what he said and she told me she HAS been informed from her DM that he would contact her- she gave her # AND e-address but has not heard from him!

And besides- I don't know why they can't at least get me signed up- get all the paperwork out of the way and than wait for a female trainer...

I am beginning to feel like I am being brushed off and I can't understand why!

I have a perfect driving record , they could go back 30 years and find nothing! I have been driving since I was 16 and the only accident I have ever been in was when I was 18. I was rear ended when I was waiting to make a left turn right in front of my own house returning home from work! Have no gaps in my employment since I was 18 except when I took 1 to 2 years off when my kids were babies (they are in their 20's now).. No involvement with drugs No DWI's no arrests, No tickets what-so-ever. All my past employers would give me an excellent reference, on good terms with all of them.

So I can't understand why he would say "my trainer" is "not returning his messages" about getting approved when he hasn't even contacted her. When I call or e-mail her she gets back with me inside of 12 to 24 hours- when she is taking her "10".
Is this the norm for them? Does anyone here have answers or suggestions? Are there other Knight recruiters I could contact?? I don't know why they can't at least get me signed up and keep the start date blank till the trainer gets approved.

Is Knight not needing new students anymore?

:dontknow: I really feel like I am being brushed off and might just look elsewhere for training.

Go somewhere else. If a company starts off lying to you and playing BS games it's a sign of things to come. Make your situation known to those as high up in the chain of command as you can go. These folks at the top have GOT to start realizing the BS their subordinates are pulling.

The "higher ups" know, they just don't care. My guess would be that Knight has hit whatever "quota" they have internally for female drivers, and have no need for the OP to make their numbers look good.

To the OP, if your heart is set on Knight (and why would it be, do some research on these idiots), you may have to wait until their numbers of female drivers drop below whatever they have determined to be an acceptable level.

    Big Don Thanks this.

Dont know why Knight would have a 'quota' on female drivers, as all the data I've ever seen show that they are 'safer' drivers then men (who tend to take more chances)! Unless, they have a high drop out rate (family, lack of a social life, not loners as many men, etc)

Probably some "politically correct" BS from higher up the food chain. I've noticed alot of companies have been actively recruiting female drivers over the past few years. Nobody ever gives an explanation as to why.

Bear in mind I have absolutely no problem with female drivers. I figure anybody crazy enough to want to drive should get the chance no matter what their "plumbing" may be. But there is a sense of the "Good Old Boys Club" in trucking even today. I've talked to plenty of women who considered trucking that felt they would not be able to find a job due to their sex. Plus there are the safety issues for women drivers that men drivers don't really consider, and for a long time companies did not want to deal with potential lawsuits. Not sure what changed on that.

I've met a couple women at 5'2" and 115 lbs that were tough and doing the same job this 200 lb guy was doing! They ignored the CB idiots who passed them and tried to talk smack to them; and some even drove bull haulers, including loading them!

I always thought being a woman and driving for Knight would have been better than a guy, as all the Knight terms I've been to have nicer Women's bathrooms (and no lines waiting to use them):biggrin_2559:

I'm sill thinking retention rate and turn over...women are generally social and not loners as many men who do OTR.

The EEOC mandates and tracks diversity quotas. If your worker diversity balance is not "representative" of the population, they'll pressure you to hire more women (blacks, hispanics, etc.). If you fail to comply over time, they'll sue you which then becomes a publicity nightmare.

They might be reacting to the Prime discrimination lawsuit where a group of women waiting for trainers filed a complaint with the EEOC - - so they're avoiding bringing her in for orientation only to have to wait for several months. Now Prime has a reputation for being a "sexist" company - - which their customers find out about and they themselves do not want to be associated with. You can imagine the press jumping all over the fact Wal Mart uses a "sexist" freight company...these things can snowball.

Most people have NO IDEA about the tactics of the EEOC.
They MAKE employers favor the identifiable protected classes over the "privilaged white male class".
    It's blatant reverse discrimination.

I'm not "complaining", I am asking for advice on a situation. If the replies are negative about Knight I have no control over that.

I have been networking for 2 months and have had literally hours of conversations with current Knight Drivers. If I had complaints about the company why would I be perusing a career with them?

I am simply confused about their hiring process and do not understand why they couldn't go ahead and sign me on than wait for the trainer to become available. IF I am not being brushed off than maybe they have some reason and maybe someone out there knows and could share. I simply want answers to my question. If others choose to use my post as a diving board to bad mouth Knight that is beyond my control. I know for a fact it takes a certain kind of individual to last in this occupation and believe me I have been "warned"! But nothing has discouraged me out of perusing it yet. I also know that many disgruntled X-employees rant because they just weren't' cut out for the job plain and simple. Who knows I may not be either but there is only one way to find out. I may last 5 days I may last 5 or 15 years but there is no way to find out until I am given a chance.

From all the current Knight drivers who have replied to my questions about the company not one of them had any complaints. Most issues were what one would expect from any company because that's just part of the job description.

The woman who has agreed to train me has already been approached by knight to train for them but she wasn't interested at that time. This hopefully is just a case of bad communication- and if that's the case you can find drivers rant on these forms about miscommunication issues all day long. In fact from what I gather, with this industry it's a given!!

If someone from Knight is indeed reading this- Well all I can say is I have heard a lot of good things about working for Knight from MANY drivers themselves. They called me from the road to answer my questions and have all been very helpful and that is why I chose to apply with Knight.
I am in good standing with every employer I have ever had. I am a dedicated hard working employee. I hope I am just worrying for nothing and not being brushed off. I hope it's just a glitch in the line of communication.
