I just got my cdl 4 days ago and havent decided for which company to work for. I see that may starts u off at .30 and schneider starts u off between .29 to .34. The instructors at my school told me start with may because its one of the better companies to work for. But I live in chicago and I see their closest terminal is in Denver. So im wondering how thats going to affect my hometime. Schneider I see has one in chicago so thats a plus for me. Im married so 1 day off in a week is what im looking for I really dont care if I run 11 or 48 states as long as I get miles and keep running. Anyone out there that can help me decide?

Theres a terminal in Gary Indiana out in chicago you have to run 48, may is a good starter company, I've been here over two years I like em they treat me good, everyone has different experiences. Never worked for Schneider so can't help you decide. We have good equipment. You're allowed to have inverters for fridges etc. we run 13spds Cummins ISX We run a large fleet of mostly PETES some freights international

yeah like dp said, if you mean you want one day a week off, you're not gonna get it at may, ever. you get 1 day off per 1 week out, but you have to be out for 3 weeks at a time. schneider honestly I believe they have more options, from the openings im always getting emails for, they have like regional type stuff and all sorts of other setups to work around people wanting to be home weekly or monthly or whatever. i cant say what the company is like itself as I 've never worked for them but if you are dead set on being home more than once a month they yeah may isnt gonna do it for you

if home time is your priority, you probably don't want to be looking for an OTR position

While home time is a priority, I guess i was hoping to work with May trucking and get a day off for a week of otr, i know thats never going to be a sure thing. but when i decided to get my cdl i wanted to get some otr my first yr and get that experience under my belt, and who knows if i like it i might even get my own truck some day. ive heard in other post that regional might mean more hometime but means low miles a day which equal to a small paycheck. and if im going to be on the road i might as well get as much miles as possible. Im also going to contact schneider and get info from them. its only been 4 days since i got my license but im doing my research now before i commit to a company. ppl have told me they can get me local jobs but seems like it all talk and no play but we'll just have to see.
