I've run out of suggestions but this last one: Do you have friends or family living in a big city that you could stay with for 4 weeks while you go to CDL school (around all big cities) , & where you wont have to work. Can pay them back some $$ when you get on the road following Training?

Knight's(Squire) program will put me up during the Range training. After that I will be trained "on the job" one on one with a trainer. It's all on the web site.

I thought I had posted earlier ... I was informed that they will have a trainer available for me in November.
I can't afford a school. Knights CDL training program is $3000. The schools are a lot more and don't pay while you learn. All that information is on their web site- If you have any questions call and they will give you the details.

when i worked for knight, they had squire posters up in every terminal and it specifically stated that trainers will NOT sleep while trainee is operating the truck..

I truly believe this is how the industry standard MUST be period and not this trainer/student team truck garbage that most co's do nowadays.

I still think AZ_Equine is confused.

There are 2 separate segments in producing a driver ready for the road, and specified as 2 separate by the 2 different Knight Squire web pages: CDL School (w/an instructor) & Training (w/ a trainer)

CDL schools run typically $3000-3400 for 4 weeks which teaches just enuf to get a CL A CDL----nothing more. Other than the $3000 that the student must pay, they cost Knight in time and instructor $ and bring nothing else but the $3000 into the Knight co. They are not going to pay the student to go thru CDL school (I've never heard of that happening anywhere!), as the student can go anywhere after school and work for another co.

Following getting a valid CDL, Training, with a ride-along trainer lasts typically about 4 weeks, where miles are accrued for Knight while the trainee is being trained, and $$ is brought 'in' to the Knight co...therefore, Knight can afford to pay both the trainer and the trainee during this period.

Altho, there 'must' be some contract signed by the trainee for Knight to recover their investment in the trainee. (Just as when Knight puts instructors' times, room, & lunch meal during the 1 week of orientation into a new hire, they require that if the new hire quits within the 1st 90 days, that the new hire must pay back $300 for Knight's investment in hiring them. Usually docked out of the new hire's last paycheck to make sure Knight gets their $$$).

And so, Knight is not going to pay a student while they are going thru CDL school, but will start offering some $$ while the trainee is 'making $$$ for them' during the training portion...it's basic business,. folks!

But I'n done with this and will let misunderstanding & folly play out......Knight is run by 'bean counters' and is always looking at their bottom line; & thus, 'gives away' NOTHING out of their generosity!!

NOTE: The bottom line (as I see it) is: if you cant quit your job to go to CDL school, or find a CDL school that you can commute to, or family & friend to stay with while going to school, & need a full-time income while going to CDL school & cant go to a CDL school w/night classes, then you're SOL..!!

The training is approximately 3 weeks starting with one week of classroom/driving track. Second week OTR with trainer. Third week local driving with trainer. After completing of the course and the passing of your CDL Skills and driving portion you will be assigned an advanced instructor/trainer for approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Once released by this trainer you will be assigned a truck and go solo for 30000 miles. as long as you are incident free you will be moved over to the Knight side of the house. The only portion of the fee that is non refundable was $500.00 the rest is deducted from your pay weekly until paid in full. Or you can pay the whole thing up front and be reimbursed a portion weekly by the company, this is discounted by 10% if paid up front. If you quit before finishing the payments you will owe nothing more as you pay as you go. You lose the $500.00 deposit.

And so for the 1st 3 weeks, the student will have no income..correct? Will Knight offer them lodging to be paid back at a future date during that period? That seems to be AZ-Equine's understanding that Knight will foot the bill and pay them during that period as she needs an income..

She will be paid during her training as well as be put up in a hotel for the time she is at the school. I do not know how they work the last part with the hotel.
