Is it really as bad as what I have read? Or has what I have read been slightly exaggerated? I am sure there are times when truck stops are full but besides trying to find a wal-mart or something what do drivers do when there is no parking?

Are "rest areas" the same and they get totally filled up as well?

What are the general times that most T/S begin to fill up for the evening?

Flatbedding is largely a first shift operation for pickups and deliveries. I make a habit of stopping for the night around 6:00 PM, and getting my wheels turning at 4:00 AM the next day. I rarely have a problem. If you are looking for parking after 8:00, you may be out of luck, especially in the Northeast. In the western states there's usually plenty of parking any time. It varies a lot based on where you are.

Yes it is absolutly true. Now a days truck stops are starting to fill up by 9pm if not a little sooner. If you wait till about 10:30pm to hit a rest area your might be hard pressed as they like to fill up around then also. As you drive down the interstate you will notice trucks on ramps sleeping. I live 40 miles west of Indianapolis and our local truckstops fill up fast..

The rest areas usually fill up fast. It's quite hard to even use many of them for the bathroom if you drive at night.

With the truck stops, I don't know as much since I'm very rarely parked in one. The few times I've had to park in the middle of the night, I've always found a spot.

there's more spaces available during the day.. after a certain time per area, as mentioned they're packed yet a few drivers roll out by the hour and roll in.. luck of the draw or call .. I hear some apps list spaces available by the hour.. i'll call if in question however I usually find a spot some where... plan...

You can usually find parking at the mom and pop stop, rather than the big chains.

Be careful parking on ramps now; many little towns, counties, & even state troopers are using these as money makers. To them it's about money, not safety.

I avoid parking at truck stops when ever possible. The things I have witnessed other drivers doing disgusts me not to mention you have to sleep with one eye and ear open for fear someone rakes the side of your trailer or rig.

I prefer rest stops when I can make it in one before it fills up. Other wise I will try to find a motel somewhere and park near it and sponge off their wifi. I have been known to bath and wash my hair in their pool from time to time as well. Other places I will stop at will be to try to make it to my consignee early and just park along a side street. I have found many off ramps to park at where troopers and DOT dont hassle you as well.

Other than to wash the bugs off my windshield (We dont fuel at them) I have little to no use for truck stops.

I thought the best time to drive was at night ?? So wouldn't the truck stops be full during the day when everyone is sleeping, and empty and night when everyone is driving ? no ?

I just thought truckers tried to do most of their driving at night when there is less traffic ?
