your right about the electronic logs keeping them from having double logs. I have never been asked to run illegal but they do like to run every last min of your hrs if they can. I would not work for a company wanting you to run illegal. The 1st time I got home it was at 2330 and they tried to count that day as a day at home. This last time I elected to stay out an extra week to get me home on Friday so I could be home for the weekend. Thursday I was about 850 miles from home and the planners strong armed me into doing a load that took me a bit farther from home but i made it home sat afternoon and my fleet manager gave me an extra day home. I'm not writing on the forum to be complaining but just telling what happens.

They also want drivers go home WITH a load, which forces them to go back to work to make the delivery appointment, but of course there were very rare times when the only option was to go home empty.

I kept getting sucked into that "We have no loads going west, so you'll just have to work 1 more week before getting home" trap. After being out 3 weeks I said look, I'm 100 miles from home, truck isn't moving until I'm authorized home time, either with or without a load. They said that I'd be sitting at that trucks top till Monday, and I said fine with me, but home time is next load. Then about 5 hrs later qualcomm beeps with permission to go home.

I doubt you'll ever hear a Heartland driver complain about pay, just home time really.

Oh, their trucks (at when I was there) are very basic. Can't move the steering wheel angle. Passenger seat is not air ride. No double beds unless your team. Etc etc. Heck my first truck with them had no jake breaks, and once I smoked up my tandoms going down a mountain. But the huge paychecks made up for it (lack of features in truck). Could be worse though, heard of other companies that do not have air con.

Oh 1 more thing was always having to get fuel at a company terminal, the limited truck stops you can go to, and then if you get to one, the limited fuel you can get, means little to no free showers, but at 48 cents per mile, I didn't mind paying the $9 for shower, pocket change.

Fuel is mostly at Pilot and Flying J. With the occasional Loves thrown in.
Still use most of your 14 most days, between driving, picking up, and delivering loads.
With e-logs allot of breaks are at shippers and receivers. It is the only way to keep rolling and get the loads delivered.
I do skip hot meals and on some days showers, just to get to where I need to be. I am home every weekend for a restart, since I am on dedicated. So I use every minute of every day that I can.
I have always been paid back for all of my scales.
I have an ez pass, so if I am routed on a toll road it is covered.

Some things I wish would change.
I would love to have an inverter, so I could cook in the truck when I cannot get a hot meal.
I would love to be paid practical mileage pay, so I could get paid for what I run.
I would love to get paid for miles I have to run going around tolls that are not allowed.

As I said. Not perfect. But it works for me for now.

Chromedome and truthin are recruiters and the only two that will say anything good about heartless express. Drivers beware !!!! Heartless express is a scam and yes they waste your time at the terminal. If you get fuel at terminal you have to wait in truck inspect lane for hours and still expect you to deliver the load on time. If you don't service failure. Drivers beware!!! Heartless express are liers , scams and they will rob you blind. Stay away.

I agree an inverter would be nice to have. I had a inverter with the other company and i was at lease able to watch tv/DVDs when I was stuck at a shipper or rcvr. The other thing is pay the freaking tolls for goodness sake. I'm sure heartland is billing the customer. michaeld019 if your that unhappy get a new job. I can see with your attitude on this site why you have these problems.

I am a very hard worker. And I know what I am doing. But heartland express is so bad that a am taking the time to make sure that drivers know. Just trying to be helping hand and making sure drivers don't waste their time with a dead end company. That's all

I am not calling BS on this post as there are drivers with every company that makes it work for them. This post with the miles and pay has not been repeated to me by any other Heartland Driver. The pay per mile is not the issue, its the miles per week that seem to suffer. Paying more per mile but running 1,000 miles per week seems to be a common complaint with this company.
