It is not a long haul company. That DQs alot of drivers. You will work for your money. Expect to hit many shippers and consignees during the course of a week. About half will be drop and hook. The other half live load/unload. Average length of haul is between 400-475 miles. Sliding scale pay for varying lengths of haul. 11 cent per mile per diem and they charge you 2 cpm for that. You can opt out of the per diem with some effort. Equipment is newer than most companies. Approx 30 terminals across the US. Most have shops and some have fuel. Dry side(Transportation) the trailers ARE NOT air ride. Reefer side is air ride. They do have some flexability on types of job status depending on the terminal. Fulltime drivers are limited to 3 days home time or surrender your truck. Even if you stayed out 2 months they still hold you to the 3 day max to retain your truck. I do OK here. Not great, just OK. It is not a longterm fit for me.
Fiddle Sticks Thanks this. -
And there is a Great deal of variance between terminals. Kinda like working for different companies. Obviously, the terminals in the Major freightlanes have more to offer opportunitywise. If I lived in a Major freightlane, things could be different But I don't and I'm not moving. There are plenty of drivers here that have been here for a longtime. So it's all up to one's individual needs as to whether you'd fit with them.

And importantly, I do get paid what I am owed. If they make a mistake, I point it out and they correct it. Sadly, I just had to point out that they overpaid me. They paid me full rate AND per diem on my last check. I choose weekly pay but they do also offer Daily pay.

Thanks for the info xlsdraw. Are they strictly automatic transmissions are do the have both?
-
I am not aware of any automatics. Not sure where you are getting that from.

May be thinking of a Knight competitor that also has red tractors & white trailers: U.S. Express....then run automatics.
NOTE:
The Pros to automatics was suppose to be:
Quicker driver training, no missed shifts, and better fuel mileage
The Cons were:
Added more weight to the tractor, more $$$ cost, and higher transmission failure rate.
For a driver, too many years driving autos will degrade your manual skills shud you change jobs/co.s and go back to a manual. Esp newbies who never learned manuals to begin with..
BTW, they have improved the failure rates, which started out high, since the initial designs....Last edited: Oct 22, 2012

Thanks for the input.

I spoke to a US Express driver the other day, and he says they are phasing out the automatics. All of their new trucks are 10 speeds.
