Make External Generator Power Safe for Electronics?

Use a good quality "Line / Power Conditioner" as your outlet block. Plug your stuff into that and you should be G2G, as long as the RPM's stay relatively consistent. Check the specs as they differ.

 

Get an uninterruptible power supply to power your electronics. It will provide a constant 60Hz sine wave, and will switch over to battery if the input power from the generator cannot be conditioned well enough due to engine speed fluctuations.

 

UPSes do NOT like generators. Been there, done that. The UPS will treat every little burp of the engine as a line fault, and switch over to battery. The only generator I've ever been able to use with a GPS is my Honda 1000W inverter unit.

I've run computers directly off the generator with no problems, other than losing data when the generator runs out of gas... That said, I would highly recommend using a Tripp-Lite ISOBAR (3330 Joule model) in the line to prevent anything major from coming down the line.

Get a "pure sine wave" inverter (Xantrex makes a good one)for your Tv and computer, and use your generator to run your ac and keep the batteries charged. Xantrex makes an inverter that will automatically start your generator when the batteris get too low. Now with all that said, your Durostar 4000 is going to be very loud and drink a ton of gas,My Honda ix3000e is quiet and will run about 9-10 hrs(depending on the load) on a tank of gas, it supplies power with an inverter not a generator, they make the quiet ones from 1000w up to 6500w mine is 5 yrs old and still going strong. I'm thinking about putting it on my semi and upgrading to a 6500w at the house.
