Knight Transportation Bad News

I keep hearing such stories about many companies even companies I have worked at.

I found out early in my trucking career that if I bugged the hell out of the terminal till I got rolling, sooner then later they made it a priority to keep my miles up. I tried being diplomatic about it and just put in my eta's and pta's but for some reason on several occasions it would take being a pain in the arse before you could get some of these 9-5r's to do their job.

I will say however that sometimes it is the drivers own fault they don't get miles because of something they did. Not saying that was your case but every company I have worked at had drivers that wanted to run on their schedule and not the loads and pretty much thought all they where getting paid to do was turn a steering wheel and go sightseeing.

The longest I have ever been laid over was a little over a day at any company. Don't know if it was because I have never turned down a load and communicated profusely. Or just luck, but I always got something even if it was a short run or a dh to the next load.

I ran almost 4 yrs with Knight,plenty of miles, but I ran mostly I-5 and the western states. During my time with them I heard alot of unhappy drivers from the east coast, so I made sure I stayed west! Knight is Based out of Phoenix and I think most of there freight is WEST, but they are trying to grow on the east side. I'm seeing the same thing with Interstate (IDC).

 

I called the new Boise Idaho Terminal, talked to the safety recruiter, who told me that since i hadnt been on the road within at least 4 months, due to doing local work for a few months, they couldnt even talk to me, let alone hire me,, i have 5 years experience, otr, and plenty more local, so long to knight for me.

 

So where can a person go with little experience..mostly local and nothing recent..?

 

Knight really does not want to many drivers with 5 years experience, that received that experience somewhere else. With many of these companies it seems they prefer to hire drivers that are pretty much in the dark about OTR driving because they know they will be required to run you illegal to keep your miles up and screw with you from day 1 to get the job done as cheaply as possible.

Thats my theory anyway since this excuse to not hire a experienced driver because they have not driven in 4 months is bogus.
What? do they think you forgot how to drive a truck?

Some companies see experienced drivers as harder to control and less willing to break the rules like they did earlier in their careers when they where happy to have a job and did not want to rock the boat. Plus they know what kind of running style and or area to drive in that works for them. I can go to a company that does not run regional and get them to run me in a certain geographic area thru force of will, where a newbie would not have a clue how to manipulate the company into making life easier and safer for them while keeping the company happy and their miles up.

 

Call the Portland or Phoenix office. If its been 4 months since you drove last they will still hire you unless they found something on you they didnt like. i had 6 months off before I went to Knight. Knight is desperate for drivers! I could be wrong but I think there policy is 4 months driving experience within the last 3 years.

Knight Sucks. Also Infinity Transport That Pulls Freight For Panther. They Will Screw You Too. Chris W The Owner Is A Con Artist Stay Away They Will Get You One Or Two Checks After About 6 Or 7 Weeks And Then They Keep All Your Other Checks Saying You Used To Much Fuel. They Think They Are Above The Irs Bu I Am Going To Turn Them In, Them ######## Will Pay .
