Fifth Wheel slide question

    Hi, haven't had a front heavy load in a while that I couldn't balance by sliding the rear tandems - well, now I got one that is moved all the way back as far on the rear tandem it will go and I'm still 1000lbs over on the drives.

    So, I guess its time to slide the fifth wheel. Which direction does the tractor have to go in relation to the trailer to take off the weight to the drives?

    Its been a while since I've had this problem - so please forgive the forgetfulness.

    in worst case, I have a GPS and can route around scale houses.

    If you slid the trailer tandems back.....you went the wrong direction. If you move the 5th wheel forward...the weight moves forward...to the steers.

    i get confused on this stuff too , but if your heavy on your drives with the trailer tandems all the way forward, move the 5th wheel forward to take weight off drives and put on the front axle...

    yeah thats right , 5th wheel forward and TT forward itll spead the weight out between the TT and the front axle

    IF the TRAILER TANDEMS are all the way back.....MOVE THEM FORWARD. This will move weight to the TRAILER.....and AWAY FROM THE DRIVES.

    You won't have to even think about moving the 5th wheel.

    Hi, thanks for the very quick reply. I guess I misstated what I did - the rear tandem are all the way to the front of the trailer. I was looking at it from pushing the trailer all the way back. Sorry for the confusion.

    Now to the 5th wheel - to clarify. The front of the trailer moves closer to the back of the tractor right? Not further away? And each slot is about 500lbs of weight relief?

    Ive got air release slide so its a bit easier.

    You will find that if you lower your dolley legs until they support some of the weight of the trailer....it will slide A LOT easier and you can make smaller movements.... Do you have 1000#'s to play with on your steers?? If so....they really screwed you on your load.

    Oh I got screwed all right. Yard in Newark NJ took 8 hrs to load this pile. then to get to Pilot on I78 for a scale -

    and what do ya know, 1000 lbs over on the drives,

    rush hour, wait for a reload, then outbound jersey traffic. I thought, well, better to reroute if necess and get my arse onto a tollway asap. I gotta get to Minnesota with this beast.

    sorry. been a long day. corrected the post. it was on the drives.

    just my luck too, only one slot to slide the fifth - still not legal.

    looks like a routing I go.
