Leaving tomorrow morning with my first of many Fema drops to NJ and NY. Generators and heavy equipment are going to be the main thing for us. Anyone else running for Fema.
mamamullins and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
Nope, I turned down a few FEMA load offers - they weren't willing to commit to a daily rate or give me a firm unload time.

my car hasn't used a tank of gas since i started drivingagain this last feb
as you know you would trade all your stuff for your wifes health'olhand Thanks this. -
Pete have you ever been offshore in 30 foot seas? I can't imagine what it must be like.

Hit a wave so hard in my 90 foot steel boat coming into Oregon Inlet in North Carolina
the weld broke from the wheelhouse to the deck
The wall of water coming across the bow actualy pushed the wheelhouse back on the deck
took out all the front windows twice stuffing matressses and blankets in the open frames before the water ruined the electronics
ran a 200 foot scallop boat for the country of Uraguay for 6 months teaching the Uraguayans how to catch scallops
they make 30 foot waves in the south atlantic regularly
i must say though waves 100 miles at sea are not as nearly as scary looking as when they crash along the shoreLast edited: Oct 30, 2012

I just delivered here in Brooklyn.its still rough getting in here

I ran up to nyc today. First stop in yonkers, just north of the city. Not too bad in and out, traffic on the expressways was very light for nyc. Some wind damage and power is hit or miss. The huge problem up there was gas. I only saw one of the 4 gas stations i passed open, lines down and around the blocks. Police on sight as securit.
Next stop was the college point section of queens. (Right off the whitestone) Again power hit or miss. Some traffic.lights were working, others werent. Last two were in the long island city part of queens. The power once again was hit or miss. Police at the major intersections without working traffic lights. The midtown tunnel is.closed, which is throwing the.cars for a loop.
Everyone i talked to said wind was the major issue with the storm. I wasnt by the water really but im sure there was some major damage due to the storm surge. Cars traffic to manhatten is hov 3+ only from 0600-2359. That doesnt suprise me being most of the tunnels are flooded and most train still down.
The most damage i saw was along the njtp between exits 10-16. Lots of billboards torn up. The areas along the marsh had to be plowed due to all the debris from the marsh being churned up and dumped on the road. All the.service areas had long lines of cars waiting to get gas. Some over a 1/2 mile out on the shoulder.
In all, it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be but im sure i didnt see the worst of it. If your headed up.this way be careful like always.
