your driver arrives at west memphis around midnight to park for the night, his drive is 10.5 hrs, he has 30 min to park

he has to deliver tomorrow evening in San antonio (641mi) which is within reason, even with a 65mph truck

but as he comes to west memphis, there is not a parking space to be found, after driving thru every truck stop in west memphis, he has used up 20 min looking for a parking space, he cannot park so he has to continue westward

what would you suggest he do?

continue onwards and find somewhere to park, document the incident indicating no parking available. There will then be no fine.

Find a safe place to park it or if he can't find one then he could drive another 30 minutes after his 11 runs out to find a safe spot but not on a ramp. :biggrin_2559:This was discussed within the last page or so.

    not fantasy, really

there are many reasons why a driver has to stop an hour early if he is on elogs, he can only plan a 10hr day, or else you will penalize him for not proper trip planning
so he planned for an 11hr day, as you, his safety manager instructed, but at 10.5, no drive time left after leaving west memphis, what should he do?

fair enough, as long as he informs you of his breach of HOS, all is well

but if he plans his day as an 11hr drive, which you said he should, this scenario SHOULD happen often, because you maximize your drive time, you reduce the buffer of violation

i like to maximize my days, the more miles i drive, the better, (ok, a bit of a stretch, i dont get paid by the mile) but many drivers do

so it is in their best interest to plan and drive until the "last minute"

this is why i say that guys that say they are enjoying elogs better have a screw loose, because you are under a very watchful eye when you elog, so you must plan to drive only 10 hrs a day

it doesn't in reality. We have 500 plus trucks and maybe 20 dudes in violations on a bad day. most of the these violations happen and are under 10 minutes of time. We have several drivers that never violate and turn 3200 to 3800 miles per week. There is no need to plan for 10 hour day.

    450 - 550 miles per day

    vs

    600-700miles per day

so these guys who say they make more money with elogs, what are they missing? at .40/mi thats quite a bit of a difference.
