Question along the same line, but slightly different. Most of the larger companies are saying you have to have a birth certificate at orientation. Being a relative "old fart", I don't have/can't find it. I have a lot of other ID, like pass port, DD214, retired military ID, CDL, pilot license, et. al. Is not having a birth certificate going to be a problem getting hired at the bigger companies?

    Thanks in advance.

That is just a matter of going in to your local county seat to the registrar office, (usually the board of health}, and having them print you out a new one, very minimal fee, I had to do that because I couldn't find mine, and I wasn't there ten minutes, just call them and see what you need to bring in with you for identification before going in.

Hear you, but I was born in another state, my dad was in the military and I haven't set foot in the state in 53 years. Would have to do some research into where I would even send for a copy. Obviously, if I have to I have to, but with all of the other forms of government ID, do I really need to?

You Ned to contact the health depart for the state you were born it and talk to them about issuing a new birth certificate

I have heard of places that will accept a passport as well as a birth certificate, because now, when you apply for the passport, you must send your birth certificate in with the application as a first time applicant before they will issue a passport, so you might not need it. That brings to mind though, when the time comes for you to sign up for social security, will you need it then? If so, it might be a good idea to get it now, only you can decide that.

Got the time, so might as well suck it up and get one. That way I have all bases covered; both for the driving aspect and all of the old age stuff that I will need down the road. ( :

My thoughts exactly, I was hoping that one of the elderly school marms that frequent this website would have chimed in by now, letting us know what will be needed, assuming there is anything left when we get to that point to need to sign up for social security.

If anyone is having issues with old berth certificates or the place where you were born is too far to travel they are available online.

It comes certified and has a bar code on them and is accepted by state and federal agencies including the DMV.
