I am unsure whether this is the proper place to post this info, but, I figured I would share it and take a chance... I have been looking at the new RM 2013 MC Deluxe Atlas. I find they are widely varying on the price. $79-$50.... up till now Amazon was the cheapest at $50. I visited the Rand McNally web page and found that they currently have them on special for $39.95 for the deluxe version of the MC atlas with laminated pages/spiral bound. It seemed like a good deal so I got one. I do not work for RM. I am a new trucker looking for a map. I hope this helps.

I needed an upgrade (my old one was 2007) and found one at Loves (same thing) for 29.95

Excellent! I will run up to Loves and get one from them and save shipping charges. I wonder why Amazon charges $50 and Barnes and Noble charges $71? Whats up with that?

Hah! Silly me. Although, that is a lot of mark up? Geez.

It is a lot of markup but have seen them in the truckstops for the same prices you were quoting and just happen to see this one at loves for the good price. I do have a GPS but nothing beats that atlas.

It's a good idea to always have both and use both.

I remember being in the same boat as the OP. I thought the prices on different sites were pretty excessive.

29.95 for a new one is about the best I've seen. That's for the spiral bound, laminated MC version.

Oh my! Man that has got to be embarrassing! So, I assume the Rand McNally updates those things? Is that cause to lose a job if that happens? I am sure that last question is dumb, but... I just don't know.... I'm of the opinion that "Professional" truck drivers know this as it is not constantly in the news? It makes me wonder even further, the fact that the sign said 12' and inches? Was that the sign that something was wrong or did the guy think GPS took precedence? Tell me something about this. I'll remind you that I am a newbie/rookie.

If the low obstruction is on a city street then it won't likely show in a RM atlas.

Pay attention to your surroundings and signs. Anyone can miss a road sign BUT when you see a bridge that might be questionable in overall height you should STOP and not drive further until you are sure that a) it is on the route you want to be on and b) that you can get under it safely. If infact you can't get under it call the local cops for assitance. They would sooner help you back out undamaged then have to fill out an accident report and close the road for hours.
