Well to answer the original question go with the Cummins ISX and yes the T680 appears to be a better truck than the T700 in terms of looks and engineering. I don't know what it is with these European based engines (maxforce,Paccar MX,Mercedes 12.8 and Volvo) low power, sub standard reliability, poor engine brakes, limited service availability and expensive parts. Some decent fuel mileage some not. Granted EPA equipment doesn't help and should even exist (thanks tree huggers) But whats the problem European trucks aren't so bad themselves just these Euro/American mixed breed engines. Reliabilaty power and fuel mileage were all good years ago when we had Cummins,Cat,Detroit and Mack. Some better than others but seemingly better than today. Give me a good ole 400 Cummins, 400 Cat, 500 Detroit or 350 Mack.

I've owned a 386 with an MX for a little over a year, about 153,000 mi. So far it has been reliable, no oil consumption, mpg in the low to mid 7's. I have gotten averages in the high 7's when running lighter loads and keeping my speed down to about 60mph or so. Engine took around 70,000 to start to run well and get decent fuel milage.

The paccar and maxxforce ( MAN here ) are the worst engines on offer here too, Mercedes build quality has gone down alot in recent years but older ones were excellent , the Volvo engines we get has a different top end to yours and is very reliable, I sold mine with 1 m on the clocks of both of them and honestly spent no money on either of them other than servicing. Engine brakes were never really developed on engines here cos we prefer the more powerful retarders. All the emissions crap has ruined even normally very good engines on both sides of the pond

I had a rented T700 this week due to a deer strike in my truck. This truck had 225000 miles on it and should have been identical to my truck.
I found this truck was goverened to 65 instead of 68 like mine. They must have goverened the engine by affecting the powerband. This rental struggled to pull grades compared to mine and consequently mpg were affected by .6-.7 mpg less then my truck on identical runs

My truck was governed when I got it. It would run up to 65 and then it felt like the fuel would shut off tll the speed went back below 65. I have had it opened up to 100 mph so it is basicly wide open and the power band seems the same as before, just not speed governed.

My Pre EGR MBE 4000 from 2003 Crushes this motor in every way.

    These are SAD results.

The DD13 By comparison is more fuel efficient. The DAF motor should be comparable to a DD13 in the performance area, but it cant even compare to a 2003 Mercedes MBE4000.

So in my mind that means Paccar MX development is about 10 years BEHIND DD and Mercedes and this is because 10 years AGO Mercedes introduced the MBE for this very reason. To get a handle on how to bring a Euro engine to the USA and make things work.

Again Mercedes is 10 years ahead of DAF/Paccar.

Jes uS folks!! I feel sorry for you Paccar FAN BOYS that fall for this DAF junk!!

Just look at this thread. Paccar went over to Europe and they cant even get it right over there? What the F makes you think they will get it right over here if that cant get the DAF MX up to par in its own homeland.

I am not in love with Mercedes but I am in love with the largest service network in the USA and the world for that matter and that is the combined network of Freightliner Dealers and Detroit Power System dealers (which included ag and marine)

Please someone please tell me how Paccar can even compare? Volvo isnt even close in the states, nor is Cummins. The Germans have won this battle already and the rest of you are arguing about the war like you are still fighting it.

ITS OVER MERCEDES/FREIGHTLINER HAVE IT IN THE BAG!! THE GERMANS FINALLY WON A WAR! THE WAR TO TAKE OVER THE US TRUCK MARKET IS OVER!!

The service network size makes all the diff ESPECIALLY if you are selling anything that is junky. The DAF MX is junk and there isn't even a network setup to fix it. YOU HAVE TO BE INSANE OR RE TARDED TO BUY A TRUCK WITH THIS MOTOR RIGHT NOW
