my idea of hos is this.
2 drive, 2 sleep. and so on and so on.
i'm never fatigued. i'm always safe. i drive lotsa miles. and make money.
i'm not doing it all in one shift. falling asleep at the wheel and being bored outta my mind while i watch the truck swerve side to side.
and my brake reaction is instantaneous.
my body has NEVER slept for 6 hours, let alone 10. do you all really want me driving 11 hours after i've already been awake for 4????
how about i've been awake 4. now it's time to untarp and unstrap. pick up the next load. strap and tarp. and go trucking.
do you really want me doing a 14 after i've already been awake 4???
but let's say i do make it. then crawl in the sleeper. 4 hours later i'm wide awake. now i'm sitting there 6 hours. now it's time to truck.
now i guess yall will be telling me to surrender my license becuase i don't obey hos. my body never has nor will function according to govt rules. i've NEVER been a full nights sleeper. all the way back to grade school.
i'm not fat. i don't have sleep apnea.
i'm a mighty fine driver. never had an accident. and i do it MY WAY.
THE SAFE WAY. that works for ME.
one thing yall don't seem to take into consideration when having these arguments.
THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF DRIVING IS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FATIGUED DRIVING.
hos violates that rule.
Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

better planning and what not. so now you have better pay. which means your pay sucked in the first place.
the probl;em is working for a bigger fleet.
we don't use the box and have absolutely no problem assigning loads. and our shippers and receivers run bankers hours.
if yoiu can't run in the limited business hours. you don't make money.
where as you van pullers have all night. put us on the computer we'll lose money.
now comes autocar with her antiquated dinosaur truck and NO ELOG to say my comment otherwise.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
Snowwy with your statement you are saying don't put them on us because we need to run illegal. That is wrong. If they need it then they shoud get it when you can get it there legally.
Actually the company I was working for pay was good and after going to e-logs OTR driver got a pay raise on top of that. The money was good before even better after. I was working local I left because they put cameras on the regional and local trucks pointing on the drivers.
Here at Tyson I have a lot more steady freight so my pay isn't up and down and the complete package is one of the best. Running illegal e-logs or not all it will take is one wreck and you and your family will pay the ultimate price.
Stuff like this is why it's getting pushed also.

Why is it that the only points you guys can make is
ONE WRECK.
You wont see me driving trying to avoid that ONE WRECK
Its really too bad when it cars more then trucks but trucks get the blame.
Be alert. Be awake. Be aware of your surroundings. Have good working breaks and youll never have to worry about that ONE WRECK.
And dont be tailgating.
A high percentage of us are smart truckers. While a high percentage of us are also tired.
and let's not forget the reality of this business. and that our job don't exactly function according to hos.volvodriver01 Thanks this. -

Because it doesn't have to be your fault. My whole attitude changed around 6 or 7 years ago. I was reading in TruckerNews about a driver in Michigan going to jail for the rest of his life for 4 counts of vehicular homicide. The driver of the truck was not at fault. The driver of the car fell asleep and crossed the road and caused a wreck. But the driver of the truck was supposed to be on a break in Fort Wayne THAT was why he was in jail. Ever since then I have been trying to keep new drivers from picking up some of the old habits I picked when I started.
Just an example I was in South LA where I think it was 101 and 99 merge 4 lanes to 3. I was in the right lane. I seen a truck in the far left lane speeding he smashed a GMC Jimmy into my driver's side. I had no were to go because I had a Jersey barrier on my right on the line. I was 100% legal and let go the other driver not so lucky as his truck was towed and he went to jail.Last edited: Nov 5, 2012

eLogs do force your company to adapt. They can't sit and wait and push freight out at the last minute or when your driver manager leaves. So in that regard it's better. Thinking needs to start from the top down.

if its about hours, elogs and paper are the exact same
if its about legal, elogs and paper are the exact same
the only advantage you get is that you get to fuel in 8min while paper marks 15min.
and if you say its because the loads are planned better by your company, thats only in a perfect world, elogs lock you in and remove any flexibility, hence it is logically impossible that you make more money with elogs
but i will agree that you do get more downtime (i cant say rest, i would die sitting still for 10 hours)
