Just looking for your opinion. I have been living in the UK for the past 14 months. My wife is in the USAF. I have not been driving a truck over here. To complicated, and confusing. I have been driving tankers for 9 years. 2 Chemical, and 7 fuel. I have a good driving record and solid background with lots of miles, and experience. When I get back to the states, I would have been out of the trucking business for close to 2 1/2 years. My CDL, and endorsements will still be valid. My question is, when I get back, and settled, what are the chances that I can go right back to work hauling petroleum products? Your thoughts? Thanks

Chances are good if you take refresher courses.

I know for me there is now background checks before you can be issued a Haz Mat endorsement... There's more rules, More security.. Be prepared.. Where is your home state here in the states?

No problem at all if you go through a refresher course.
Hazmat & TWIC will increase your chances of better pay.
Much has changed during the short time you've been away, but you will be OK.

My License is from California. I have all the endorsements, haz-mat, and TWIC. I've hauled Sulfuric/Phosphoric acid, molten sulfur, ammonia, fertilizer, gas, diesel, ethanol, transmix, Jet fuel. Ive done hundreds of pump jobs, and I can do doubles, and triples. Ive been carded at BP/Arco, Shell, Chevron, Tesoro, Kinder Morgan, and about 30 other fuel racks. We just found out we will be going to Montgomery Alabama next June. Last time I was there i worked for a company called Hi Ridge Transport. I should be able to reapply with them. With the current qualified driver shortage, I think I will be able to procure employment. The only thing Im concerned about is being paid by the load. This is a deal breaker. Wont do that again.

My opinion is you're an experienced driver that has an intensive background in hazmat that's been out of the game for awhile. I see no problem if you go back and do a refresher course then getting hired anywhere you want. I do see a problem you might run into with the pay. You'll most likely get offered way less than you were making before. You'll have to chech around to see which company is the most stable and just didn't fire a bunch of drivers then started working the pi++ out of the others. I would stay away from the Majors because they are dumping their downstreams operations and bidding them out. A good solid carrier that's been around for years and has drivers that retire from them would be my choice anywhere.

A refresher course is just about mandatory anywhere you go. It would be the best place to get back in shape.

    sprizo Thanks this.

There's a German company in Montgomery that has hazmat tanker trucks; can't remember the name and certainly can't pronounce it. Might be a steel company, but not sure. Their trucks are yellow with blue decals.I do remember their benefits are good, but probably not as good as Air Force benefits.

I got paid a flat hourly rate for 10 hours. If it went over 10 hours then it went to time and a half. OT days were 1½ and if you worked a holiday it was 2½. If you worked a holiday and it was your day off then it was 3 times base. My pay started when I went through the gate and ended when I left. Your pay scale has me lost. Sounds like too many ways to rip you off.

yep, not too clear on details was I?, sorry I was just getting offline, to be specific was saying something along same lines as your pay structure, good base pay plus paid OT for over 40 only way
Load pay is such a scam overall as now constructed, looks good on paper, but never transfers real well to the street
