I'm located in chicago il i was wondering does anyone know who's hiring people under 21 in the chicago area? How do you find truck companies in your near by area who do local runs ? I'm willing to get out and do the work but not sure where to start. It kinda seems like a mistake getting an cdl this early but with all the job opportunities i thought there will be some jobs for people my age. Thanks for reading this

Umm...good luck. I don't see it happening until you're over 21.
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
I don't know anything about Chicago area but I had my class A at 18 and I got a part time gig driving dairy tankers when I was 19. You might look into doing something like that.

Most trucking companies can't hire you before 21. As Milktanker posted, maybe a milkhauler will use you, except you live in Chicago instead of a dairyland. Check Careerbuilder and yellow pages for work as courier or expedited which would be a good start until you're 21.
For the fuure, look at pantherexpedite, good place to start at 21 with no experience.Last edited: Nov 10, 2012

Live in Chicago? Hit up every LTL outfit plus UPS. Get on with them for Dockwork. Let them break you in for a driving job. These are the driving jobs you want. Dont just go to any OTR carrier just because they will put you on when you reach 21 years old. Get a real driving job that pays and enjoy home life. I went OTR when i hit 21 and wasted my best young years of life on the road.

^^^ yep... When I was LTL in Jersey, we had a 20 year old... He did know somebody there however. Beat the street and let them see you face to face.
