Not a complaint but rather an observation and wondering how other newbs felt about the docked threads. I can understand long term members not wanting to keep answering the same questions over and over from new members to the forum but as a new member I do not find value in docked threads. One reason is the starting date when the topic was started (sometimes years), second the number of pages to some of these (can be 60 plus), and third often the relevance of posts years later sometimes stray. All of these sometimes leaving me to wonder (after spending hours wading through a docked thread) if the information is still valid.
I would think the forum members are made up of members in all stages from newbs like me to those long term members. Even though a question has been asked before it is new to the newbs and there are those who somewhere in between a newb and long term member that I don't think would mind answering a question that has been asked before.
To me as a newb on the board I search the recent new thread posts that have 5 or less pages. I have waded through a couple of the docked thread but have not found them nearly as informative as the shorter more recent posts. Just my 2 cents as a newb wondering what others thought about the docked threads.

I agree. If I'm "researching" anything, I don't pay any attention to stuff dated back past about a year, regardless of the subject. But I can see that for a few subjects that are timeless (chaining, defensive driving, etc), there is no need to recreate the same round wheel.

Perhaps some of it may depend not on the number of pages, or the date the tread was started, but on the more recent posts. If there are any.
Anyway, your assignment for today, is to read this thread:http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...rything/120745-hijacking-club-membership.html in it's entirety, and then report back to us. There WILL be a test, so you can't cheat. Oh yeah, there are only a bit over two thousand pages to this thread! And of course, every post is IMPORTANT and pertains to TRUCKING!

I agree with the op. To many docked threads. If a thread has real value it will keep itself at the top.

Why does the docked threads bother anyone?
Lilbit and Mastertech Thank this. -
I guess some people think that if they don't want to read something, then no one else should be allowed to read it. In fact, it should be banned. BANNED, I say!
