hi, newbie wanting suggestions on which cb, gps & inverter to buy.

GPS, I can't tell ya since I don't own one, but make sure it's a trucker GPS! CB - Cobras are decent, look for a good price. Conex or Galaxy are good ones too. As far as inverters, you first need to find out what is allowed by the company. Some companies allow only up to a certain amount of watts. The brand my hubby has is Cobra, and don't go lower than 800 watt as long as the company allows it. A friend of ours gives the latest Cobra GPS for truckers a big thumbs up. Others give the Rand McNally GPS good ratings.

 

IMO, Rand Mcnally 510 or 710, and a Cobra 29 will work fine. As for the inverter you will need to look into what you will be running before you choose.

Cobra 29, good coax cable and a Wilson 2000 antenna, is what I run and have been for a loooong time. have only had 2 radios in all my years driving and they were both Cobra 29's. had to break 'em.
get it peaked and tuned for about $10-$20 or so.

don't use a GPS so can't advise on that. the inverter depends on the wattage of your devises running. more is better. don't want it to over heat.

 

There's a special right now on a cobra GPS at one of the stops I can't remember if its lives or pilot but its 299 and comes with a cb. The flyer says its like getting a free cb which seems about right.

 

I run a general lee puttin out 80watts. Great radio I use a garmen don't get it... Get a rand McNally

 

We have the Rand McNally 720, had the 710 and they have both been great. Love the feature that lets you quickly search for Truck Stops, Scales, Walmarts and rest areas either along your route, near your truck or near you destination. Very cool. The $299 Cobra deal for the GPS and CB is I think at Loves. That is a great buy. We have a 1500 Watt Powerdrive inverter. The yellow one they sell at Pilot/Flying J. Has worked great without a hiccup for 2 years. Runs microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator and tv just fine. We do not run the 700 watt microwave and coffee maker at the same time, however.

 

i got a connex 3300 general lee putting out at about 110 watts rand mcnally 720 gps both work flawlessly for me but for a starter set up go ol reliable cobra 29 or a galaxy with a wilson antenna rand mcnally 510 gps should be a good set up i cant recomend an inverter as im trying to figure out what i need myself

 

Definitely go Rand Mcnally for the GPS, it is easy to use and update and provides traffic info. I use a Galaxy 33 CB Ive had it 11 years and only spent an additional $30 to tune it. It takes a beating and stands the test of time. Whatever radio you get its worth the few bjcks to have it tuned at a radio shop. Not sure about inverters.
