hi, newbie wanting suggestions on which cb, gps & inverter to buy.

Wow! I really respect that! You guys actually took the time to learn your profession the correct way and are now probably masters of the road map! This is so much to your advantage! By running with just your map you have actually instilled in your minds all the roads and highways in the country. It seems that when you use GPS you don't retain or seem to remember anything because you are simply relying on the GPS. If only every driver did this when they started out....

As far as buying electronics, its really up to the individual preference. Some are better than others but most are comparable. Style, format, etc... is usually what makes up the difference. You want a good CB at a good price check Radio Shack. Ebay and other sites like Amazon are also great places to find deals. Oh ya, don't forget Craigslist.

 

Why is everybody so against Garman? I use the Garmin truckers GPS which has live traffic built into it in fact that's the only reason I even use it now because I love the traffic feature. I stayed far away from rand from what I read in this forum a year a go!

I also use a Samsung Galaxy 7" tablet mounted on my windshield right next to it for google maps. Using both together, I can navigate through any city (cought Atlanta and crashville) painlessly avoiding traffic and taking the best route.

Both these devices work well together if you use them

 

Cb forgt it, i had mine for a month , nobody talks on it much, not even shippers and recs i have cobra gps 5 inch, so far it found me 3 cornfeilds in iowa and she says your your destion is on the right, or she will leave me a mile short of the place anyway since i am company, sash treatd like o/o , heres what i plan too do for an inverter, buy a nice size toolbox , then a small motorcycle battery, slide this battery down inside the the toolbox, then put my 2000 inverter inside the toolbox , wire it too the battery, on the side of toolbox ,i'll have 3,one inch holes drilled, now i can mount my 12 volt cig lighter too the battery, now i have outlights for my lunch box, now with this setup i can carry from truck to truck and when i get home i just plug it in on a trickle charger , this way no harm or fowl too the company truck since it not part of the truck, i almost got enuff points saved up from the pilot too get it , then my total cost would be $65 for this set up

There are plenty of shippers and receivers that still rely on the CB to let drivers know when and which dock they are to hit. CB's also come in handy for knowing about traffic back ups, crappy roads that are ahead, and other things that could actually help prevent an accident. Sure, you get your idiots out there that talk smack, but I'd still rather have a CB and know about potential problems.
