Been seeing more n more Maverick trucks going down I-65 thru North Alabama in the last couple of weeks, mostly with coils. Is this a new lane for Maverick? I live in Huntsville, AL and am looking to make a jump from the company I am with after the holidays. Is there enough freight in my area to keep me busy AND get me home for the weekend?

    Papabear,

Do you know if Maverick has runs going into Texas. I see that they do have a hiring area there but how far do they go? It seems they run a pretty good operation and keep the complaints to a minimum based on what the boards say.

maverick has plenty of frieght going through I-65, but this is probably not the best time of year for it. I just picked up a load this week in Brownsville, TX and took it to Nashville, Tn. Frieght is slow this time of year. I would wait till about the middle of January before I made the switch. To answer your question, there is plenty of frieght moving up and dow I-65 to get you home every weekend.

Maverick does run all over Texas, but only hire in certain areas of Texas. You will have to call recruiting for specifics. I know they will hire as far south as Houston and Waco.

Yes I know freight is slow, I'm with another flatbed company based in AL and I'm STARVING for miles. The only thing that would hold me back from jumping RIGHT NOW is that I finish up my 6 months OTR the first week of January. I have 7 1/2 yrs local driving, with just these last few months OTR. I DO NOT want to drive with another trainer for lack of OTR experience, so I will contact recruiting soon to make the switch after the new year. I had talked to Shay b4, but they put me on the infamous "waiting list", so I had to get with the other company.

I take it you are with mcelroy? I know one of their drivers and he got his miles cut bad as well. I am with mav and have had some rough weeks since thanksgiving. Some was my fault needing to be home for a doctors appt. Others was a CSR giving me bad appt times and a few short hauls and having to wait a lot lately. I left this last tuesday and got to my drop. Unloaded and had to wait for 6 hours to load. Got to my drop at 1500. Could not del untill 1230 the next day. Was to pick up 10 miles down the road and had to wait 6 hours to get loaded. Short run less than 300 miles that del started at midnite. Had to wait 6 hours to unload. Next pic was less than a mile away routing me thru the house. Was only 4 hours from home, but shipper took hours to load me!!:biggrin_25524: Not the usual with mav. Most of the time they keep me rolling, but things happen in trucking.

I've seen alot of Mav Drivers on the I-10 / I-12 Corridor lately in Louisiana. Saw a couple of them deadheading together the other night westbound. Talked to one a few weeks ago at a Petro here. He said things were a little slow right now, but he said Mav runs a pretty good outfit. I imagine business goes up and down like anything else. I think if I were looking at flat bedding, that's where I would look. But I guess I will try to get my 2 yrs OTR doing a dry box. Maybe KLLM or Roehl.

You got that right, NoTarps!! Both the question and the statement. I can understand slow shippers, and sometimes slow customers, but when the freight isnt there and the company is still bringing in new drivers!!WT(F)
