what taught me NOT to listen to safety managers was that i was also taught NEVER Uturn

driving thru some small town in Alabama, passed my turn, thought about making a uturn, said, NO, WE CANNOT DO UTURNS. so i continued, wound up in some small university (2am), university security shines the light on me, says i cannot go any further

i told him i cannot make a uturn, he says, the road deadends in about 1/4mi, so i must make this uturn, but i cant, i actually had to back up about good mile to the original intersection

so much for listening to office people about how to drive a big truck

Yes if there was no room for a safe U-turn.

I have made U-turns in the past, and in the not-so-distant-past... Even on Chicago city streets! But there was room, and I waited with flashers on for about 15 minutes before there was a break in traffic long enough. Heheheheee

On another thread where someone left there team mate, it was mentioned to use a sock on the shifter if you get out of the truck where the other driver knows you are out of the sleeper. Sounded like a good idea, now if you can only keep up with where the sock went, also a good use for those mateless wonders or holy (ha ha) that you end up with.

I think they afraid of the u-turns because some idiot in a car may come along and end up topless when they don't notice you across 2 lanes of the road.

of course, thats typically the problem

rookie drivers making uturns and killing people or tearing up stuff

i understand the policy, its just unrealistic, thats all

Obviously, sometimes you have to but, i think it is a good practice to avoid u-turns whenever possible. I pull split-axel flats so that makes for a great challenge at times.

This right here is why, when the option to train comes up in a couple months, I'm going to give a two letter reply rather than a three.
