SWIFT blows. I can't pay the bills. I've brought home a whopping $10,500ish since starting here in February. I'm now sitting in Salt Lake with no load. EVERYONE knew I delivered this morning and would have 10.75 left on my 11 after delivery but no one wants to kick me a load. 604 mile week. Pathetic.

I have a great opportunity to run a truck with landstar after I hit my one year mark, should I just suck it up for another couple months? Or should I give SWIFT their POS prostar back and hit the door running? Wife and 2 kids at home, 10k in 10 months don't even come close to cutting it.

This can be a tough time of year. And though you're really suffering right now, I'd personally try to suck it up until your year is up...it will pay dividends.

Sorry it's been such a bomb for you. Good luck!

You know we are all going to say wait it out.
Its definitely going to be a long 3 months no doubt, but if you can stick it out then do so.
Unless you can land that job right now just be patient.

    Good luck

Remember....switching jobs means zero income and zero income opportunity during that time.

I thought that'd be the answer I got! Is there anything i might be able to do to get some miles? My DM's answer for everything is "I'll message the planners." And nothing gets done after that. As my pay goes up, I've noticed that my miles have been steadily decreasing and I can't imagine that it's just a coincidence.

Are you on some sort of regional fleet? maybe move to the national fleet? I've heard many complain about miles, then come to find out they're home 8 days out of the month by choice. Nothing wrong with being home 2 days/week but when you are that means they keep you close to home, and when they keep you close to home you're dealing with a very small subset of available freight planning.

Not sure what your family situation is but we need to have a more basic understanding of your needs and expectations before anyone can offer any real advice.

Welcome to trucking. If you can't hang over the road but want to stay in the industry, switch to LTL. Youll have a predictable route and make a set income with guaranteed freight.

Look at the bright side, at least you're not working for CRST. Not only would you be sitting with nothing to do and no money to make, but you'd be sharing your truck with an equally irrate and bored grown ### man.

Theres no upside to working for these mega carriers. Its like going to prison. You do your time, and if you survive, you come out on the other side with a lifetime of learning under your belt. The only difference is when you come out of prison, you've got a job at a gas station waiting for you. If you come out of swift, you've got an LTL gig or a better OTR job not too far off in the distance. Hang in there Driver...

I run west of the big muddy river, and most of the time, I go out for 3 weeks and come home for 3 days. What I need is to run when I have the hours to run, and what I expect is to be ran in a way that helps me maximize my availability. The load I dropped this morning was 650ish miles, Phoenix to salt lake, live load and unload with like 4 days on it. I have all the normal bills, rent, insurance, phone, car, utilities, etc. $250 a week doesn't come close to paying for it.

I agree with going LTL, Per hours worked there arent many driving jobs that can compare. however my advice is to stick it out with swift till Jan. 2 more months will give you a full year of experience. 1 years experience sounds alot better then less then a years experience!
