Wasn't aware you could get endorsements before your license. I guess maybe they just put them on there once you have obtained your CDL? Not sure how that all works. Course it takes such a long time to get approved for your Hazmat maybe it is a good idea to start now.
Marky84, Hazmat is going to be the toughest part of the whole thing. Study up! My dumb ### had to take it like three times before I passed! Some of the questions can be a bit tricky. Should be plenty of sample tests on line though. Actually I think this website on the main page has practice tests.
Good luck man...

That's how it's done down here in Flori-Duh! Just like differing state laws (such as Florida requiring all commercial vehicles to stop and check load securement every 150 miles or three hours, whatever comes first) applying to CMVs I guess obtaining endorsements also vary by state. -

Not sure how it works in your state. but in IL if you have some endorsment than the cdl examiner can grill you about the endorsments on your CDL pre trip part of the test. the basic cdl is hard enough to get. i wpuld just get the cdl then get your endorcments later. You wont have trouble getting a gig with just the cdl
DocWatson Thanks this. -
Yes get everything except Passengers. Passengers are horrible loads, they keep releasing the load locks.

Since the OP mentioned Minnesota -- For what it's worth, when I took my CDL permit test in Rochester back in October (2012) I asked about the tanker and double/triples endorsements. The examiner said they didn't offer the other tests (besides general, air brakes, and combos) at permit time; those would be offered at the time I take the written test for the actual CDL. (Also, the CDL permit and the three tests were no-charge.) Your mileage may vary.

Marky, initiate the background checks, and take the endorsement tests. The tests are all about the same in difficulty. If you had a hard time with the first three, you will have trouble with these. Each test uses parts of other tests. Too easy. In Oklahoma, I had all my endorsements and back ground check before my road and pre-trip test. By the way, the cost and difficulty of the license was the same at the time of testing, whether I had all endorsements or none. Just make sure you stop at RR crossings if Hazmat endorsed. Good luck.
Marky84 Thanks this.
